Hey Intel.... Got a question

First off let me tell you that your amazing with all that you know about detailing and the care of cars. I've got a question for you that is probably trivial compared to some of the ones asked.
I bought a set of Ford factory nerf bars that were suppose to be in excellent shape. Well, when I got them I noticed a few scuff marks on the black plastic end pieces. There's also a scratch about 1/8-1/4 inch wide x 1" long. It's deep enough so that when you run your fingernail across it you can feel it. Wondering if there is anything that can be done about it or is it not worth aggravating over it?
Thanks in advance. By the way, I agree with the other guys when they say it's a good thing were not neighbors. No kidding aside, you should think about writiing a book.

You can remove it by sanding it and polishing but you're going to lose the texture in the plastic.

Is the one scratch you can feel with your fingernail in the chrome or the plastic?

Don't worry, my nerf bars aren't perfect. One is badly bent because it got hit on one of those concrete blocks things coming out of a bank. Didn't even scratch the chrome though :P

The nerf boards are smooth black, no texture. What do you recommend for sanding and polishing? I'm wondering since they are plastic will the sand marks polish out or will there be a difference in color? I was thinking of trying Liquid Glass based upon your little experiment with the plexiglass. What do you think? Is it not worth the time and effort? Thanks for any advice you may have to offer.

Can you get a picture?

Liquid Glass is very mildy abrasive. A cleaner wax would be much better if you want to try that route. Go with Meguiar's #6 Cleaner Wax.

For a plastic polish there are two ways you can go.

Plexus is great for mild scratches. Can't really use them on scratches you can feel but will polish up hazy and swirled plastic. Spray it on a microfiber cloth, then polish, polish, polish, let haze, then switch to a clean side and buff to a gloss. I wish I took pictures of what it did to my bug reflector.

Meguiar's makes plastic polishes in their professional line of products. I don't know the number but they are probably on their webpage. I know there are two of them and you need both. one is a heavy compound and the other is to polish out fine scratches.

Try boating supply stores and they will probably have a lot of the Meguiar's line. I know West Marine does

Sorry I can't get you a picture, no digital camera yet. I'll try what you suggested about the cleaner waxes and see how I make out.

Do you ever come up to jersey? or was he just stating a point? LoL. I'm pretty tired, got up at 6 to work on the truck, and i've been staring at this screen for like 4 hours now, i think its time to hit the hay.

I'm not from Hays. Think it was my great grandparents that first moved to hays... or it could have been my great great grandparents. I really have no clue
