Question Warranties? vs Reliability?

Well I had a warranty on my last truck and boy did it pay off, the tranny went to only be followed by the a/c (evaporator to be exact). The cost of the repairs exceeded $3,200 for a warranty I only paid $1300 for. So I can accuratly say that warranties have worked for me in the past, the only delima I am having is should I buy a warranty for my new truck or has Ford become more reliable with the new Tranny's? Any good advice from any enthusiast would be well appreciated. I have decided though if I buy another warranty I am not buying from Ford, they screwed me on my first car. When or if I decide to buy another warranty it will be from Warranty Gold, at least they stand behind their word, if you want to know my dealings with that firm email me and ill let you know the guy who helped me for he was very helpful.

God Bless,
Dr. Brockweilde

I feel safe with an extended warrantee. I havn't had to use the extended part yet, but knowing I have another three years on my 99 Expy is conforting. Warrantee gold, which you refer to is not doing business in California, their site posts the following message. I'm not sure of all the dynamics involved, but it can't be good.

re: wg

Yes I contacted them about that myself, because my brother lives in CA I had some concerns as well. That also happened in WI years ago before the state uplifted the legislation, point in case this is an attempt it seems by dealers to monopolize the business in CA because warranty companies were taking their business, or the dealers just became greedy. This is a simple insurance matter and does not affect me in any sort of way, and just to be sure I contacted one of WG competitors and was reassured that no one of reputable statue can sell in CA except liscend dealers. I bet this legislation passed will not make it another year before it is appealed. Thats what I love, how informative they are there and got out of their way to help me.

God Bless,

I have yet to own a vehicle that didn't require extensive a/c repairs before it reached 5 years and as you know, a/c repairs can be quite expensive.

It's like buying health insurance. Sometimes it seems like you're throwing away your money, yet all it takes to make it pay off is to get really sick just once.

Get the extended warranty and have peace of mind for 2 more years.

Scroll down in the Engines forum for a post that gives the name and number of somebody at a Ford dealer who sells the warranty for something like $800.

Should have mentioned that you don't have to buy the extended warranty right away. You can wait until just before your basic warranty runs out. If your truck is trouble free, then you may want to pass on it. If your truck is having problems, buy it then. They'll probably charge you a fee, but it won't be much.

Warranty Gold vs. Warranty Direct

Warranty Gold and Warranty Direct are both trying to get my business. I have less than two months left on my factory warranty. I read a couple of negative things about Warranty Direct, but have yet to hear very much about Warranty Gold. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I checked out both of these companies myself back in the day when I was shopping around, and due to the high number of unresolved complaints I gave my business to the older more reliable company, in this case it was with Warranty Gold. If you want to email me directly do so and ill give you what feedback I do have.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Brockweilde

Strongly recommend you go with the Ford warranty, not a third party. You can get the Ford warranty just as cheap if you shop it a little.

I would recommend sticking to a Ford warranty. I am sure it costs a little more, but it should be easier to get service at the dealer. I also think you can get a better deal if you buy it when you purchase the truck.

I have an extended warranty on my truck and had one on my previous car. The warranty on the car costs about $500 and paid more than $5000 in repairs before it expired. The one for the truck also paid for itself when my AC system was completely replaced.

thanks for the link Irutt. When I bought my '01 Screw 2 weeks ago the dealer wanted $1300+ to extend the warranty to 75,000 miles. I am glad I waited. I haven't decided if I will buy and ext. warranty or not ( never bought on in the past and been lucky) but I will strongly consider it. Especially since my Screw has the 4R70W trans and I will be towing. My '98 Expy 4X4, has a 4R100 trans., lucky on that one.

Problems or is it me?

I had a Ford ESP Premium Care on a truck I had several years ago, the dealer wasn’t very cooperative at all, that is why I chose a third party warranty and so far its been great. Warranty Gold, Ltd. offered things Ford could not i.e.: the plan starts from date of purchase of contract not in service date. Furthermore the plan simply covered more i.e.: Ford excludes squeaks, rattles and wind noise, potentially my engine or tranny could squeak or rattle in which they wont diagnose the problem because of that exclusion therefore I am forced to pay diagnosis and any repairs occurring from that noise. Verbiage of this sort does not belong in a factory warranty, if they want my business it shouldn’t have loopholes in the contract.

Best of Luck,
Dr. Brockweilde
