Hood Wax Test Underway
Hood Wax Test Underway
Ok, I decided to do a little test on my hood. Lots of pictures here.
Ok, this is a picture of the hood. I was working on it this Sunday with the buffer. I clayed the hood with Eagle One Clay Bar. BTW. I hate this clay bar. It is very soft and leaves streaks of clay everywhere. Don't buy it!. I then polished with 3m Swirl Mark Remover followed by Meguiars #9 Swirl Remover 2.0
Here is a pic of the results so far

Here is a pic with products applied.
The passenger side is Meguiar's Gold Class Liquid Wax
The driver side is Klasse SG.
You can see how thin Klasse SG is applied compared to Meguiars Gold Class.

I just removed the products about 15mins ago. Sorry but I have no pictures yet. It is dark and cold out and I really don't feel like pulling out my flood lights for one picture. I will post pictures as soon as I get home on this thread.
Also, a note about Klasse SG. Klasse SG does not work its wonders with just one coat. I will be layers klasse up to 5 coats. I will also put on a few more layers of Meguiars Gold Class. Then we will be able to judge the two products.
So far, what do yall think? Questions? Comments?

I have a buffer but I have never used it. It is old (My dad's) I am afriad to use it because I have heard that you can really screw the paint up? Is there any tips? Or mabe a special wax that I can not screw it up with ?

Is it variable speed? Is it a rotary or a Dual-Action buffer?
First you'll need to get foam pads for it. Wool pads are too harsh and terry cloth bonnets leave swirls.
I suggets either 3m Swirl Mark Remover or Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 for a good polish.
3m SMR seems harder to use. It also leave behind oils that it uses as fillers which are hard to buff off. You'll see the oils and think they are swirls when it is really just the oils.
Meguiars #9 is awesome! I pretty much use it all the time now. I only use 3m SMR if there is a particular area that is bad. After I'm done with 3m SMR I'll end up going over it with Meguiars #9 anyways.
I'll need to know more about the buffer before I give advice. Don't want to write about a rotary and have it turn out to be a DA buffer.
You mention suggeting a good wax. Buffers aren't really good for waxing. I mean, sure you can use one and a lot of people do but I don't think there is any times savings. You'll be able to apply the wax faster but then you have to deal with cleaning a larger pad and messsing with the power cords. Plus you'll waste more of your wax in the buffer pad. I still wax by hand. Only use the buffer for polishing.
Tell me more about the buffer you have and can you get a pic of it?
Bad news. Both sides look the same! :o
I've looked at it this afternoon in the direct sun and again when I got home in the shade. There is no noticable difference between the two sides. The only difference is in the Meguiar's Gold Class side the sky looks slightly darker.
I have another coat of Gold Class and another coat of SG on the truck right now. It takes atleast 3 coats of SG to get a good shine on it. Hopefully one of these waxes will start to pull ahead. Right now, if the shines are equal I'll be using Klasse SG simply because it lasts longer but I have heard that Meguiars Gold Class gets a better shine the longer it is on.
Man, I still love the feel of the paint on my hood. After the heavy claying and polishing it is the smoothest paint I have ever felt. It is just... WOW!

OK, I buffed the second coats off both sides at 6 o'clock. I could see a slight difference. The Gold Class Sides seems to be slightly darker.
I then pulled off the tape and you can really see it well. Now I have GC on one side with a no wax strip down the center and Klasse on the right. There is a big difference between the no wax and the GC. There is just a slight difference between the no wax and the SG side. I'll take pics tomorrow after I take the third coat off.

Intel,
You are the master of shine. I have never seen a pickup truck that was used as a daily driver shine like that. It was like looking out a window to see a tree.
