Gave my old F150 some love today, she hasn't been this pretty in about 6 years. The paint needed it badly as I realized this after I started. Had a full day at work with no work to do so I cleaned her up good. The paint is in rougher shape than I thought but still cleaned up nicely.

Started with a wash and dry, then moved it into the air conditioned shop to clay.
After clay baring the whole truck


After the clay I hit it with Maguires compound, then ultimate polish


Then three coats of the Maguires ultimate liquid wax. My roof has never looked this good!

I swear if it rains this weekend I'll be pissed!

Beautiful! I can't believe how good the plastic spacer above the bumper looks. The one on my old King Ranch had gotten some pretty bad rock chips. And, they were not easy to repair.

What do you do on the 130?

Looks really nice! Reminds me of my 2005 Oxford White F-150 - which was probably the best looking Ford truck I ever owned.

Now that you've honed your skills on white paint, we'll be expecting a full report on the upcoming detail on your "other mode of transportation." We'll give you 12 hours for that one.

Thanks! The piece you are talking about is by far from perfect. There are quite a few rock chips and some other blemishes I was not able to get out. I think next time I'll try a compound that is a bit more aggressive.

I am an Avionics Electrical Technician (AET) so I work on the 130 maintaining the electronics such as the radios, navigation systems, radar, autopilot, GPS, electrical wiring, infrared camera, and IFF systems. When I fly, usually 3-5 times per week, my main flight crew position is the Navigator however I can also fill the Radio operator and basic crew member positions.

Eff that! Been there and done that, it's no easy task. Only once have I ever waxed that whole plane at once and it took 10 guys 12 hours, by hand! We are not allowed to use machines on the plane due to the type of paint used so it's all done with cheesecloth and a special aircraft wax. Most of the time the only areas we wax are the wing leading edges, the elevator leading edges, flight control surfaces, and areas around the engine exhaust. The one time we did wax the whole thing was for some admirals retirement ceremony. They do get a fresh water rinse after every flight and hand scrubbed weekly. I spent 6 months doing nothing but washing planes, it got old quick!!

White can and does look amazing, just depends on the lighting to really catch the reflections.

 

VERY nice work! IMHO White should be bright and shiny.

For a Last Step Product (LSP) on white paint I like Zaino Z-2 and Collinite 845 both products are good for longevity and gloss.
I've even done 3 layers of Z-2 with ZFX in one afternoon and layered that the next day with Coli. I like Coli 476, 915 and 845.
