Ford's Exterior/Interior Treatment Package
Ford's Exterior/Interior Treatment Package
Hey Yall,
I am extremely excited for my new 2013 F-150 Limited to arrive at the dealership on the 10/29/2012! One question I had was your opinion on going with the Ford dealer installed exterior/interior coatings package. They told me it is $999 to have the undercarriage, body, and interior leather treated chemically. I can save $100 by opting for all three. Is it worth the $899 to do this with Ford? Or should I look elsewhere for a better deal same quality coating?
I should also mention they told me that you have to have the coatings "re-certified" annually. They told me they don't do the "re-certifications" there and I would have to drive to a Ford dealer nearly 1.5 hours away. Also, there is an inspection fee and re-application fee of roughly $40 for each of the three aforementioned treatments.
What are your thoughts regarding exterior/interior treatments? I should mention I live in Illinois where the weather gets pretty rough and nasty in the winter. So I definitely see the benefit. Just wanted a second opinion. Thanks!

Those "treatments" are incorrectly named. They should really be called "additional dealer profit".
The exterior coatings are no better than what you can do with a bottle of wax. The interior treatment is no better than what you can do with off the shelf products. The undercarriage will survive fine with an occasional undercarriage wash in the winter.
If you don't do your own work, your money would be much better spent taking it to a reputable professional detailer twice a year - in the spring and in the fall.

For the interior, scotchguard makes a specific waterproofing agent for leather. For the exterior which is what most have concerns about, may I recommend Profection by BAF/Pro Car Care Products. I would suggest Profection P73Q- it has a bit more polish in it as compared to the other which gives also a very brilliant shine. these are actually the specific products that the dealers apply...they just purchase in large containers, use a spray gun to apply & wipe off.
