Question Cleaning the windshield

I usally use Stoners glass cleaner but I currently have a full bottle of Armor All glass cleaner. Even with the Stoners I had a hard time getting rid of streaks on my windshield on the inside. I have used newspaper, paper towels, micro fiber towels,100% terrycloth towels, and a Stoners glass cleaner thingy. What am I doing wrong? The only time it was the cleanest was after SafeLite installed it.They used a commercial foam type cleaner. Is a foam type cleaner needed?

You have to wipe it then use another microfiber and go over it again. Newspaper only worked when it was kerosene based.

I like to use my Stoners wipe thingy.I think I will spray the glass cleaner a bit more sparingly as to not soak the foam pad. When wiping the glass does it matter much if you wipe side to side or up and down?

I try to keep it uniform. Use plenty of cleaner just use more microfibers. That's key

I have no problems with Stoners using plain old paper towels, but the tight weave (not plush) microfibers made for glass work really well.

I use the PoorBoy Velvet Smooth Glass Towels

I used these with PB Spray & Wipe.
- When I get streaks with this, it is either a temperature too high or used too much case. Prior to application, you should be able to hold your hand on the surface comfortably for 5 seconds, if you can't the surface is too hot, and streaks are a given ( again with the PB SnW ).

Prior to using this, I used Zep glass cleaner, but they changed it and it did not work as well. Changed over to SnW, nice part no worry about overspray on to the paint, SnW is a waterless detail spray.

Another thing, do you have trees as an issue ?
Might want to check the glass with the same baggie test as paint, might need to clay the glass to remove sap or the likes ( which can cause smearing - confused for streaks ? )

use a 50/50 mix of houshold grade ammonia & denatured alcohol..........paper towels or 100% cotton towels. The glass installers use a product (99% of the time)- Sprayway glass cleaner...it is available for anyone to purchase, Costco usually has it too.....

The glass installers probably used Sprayway Glass Cleaner. Its in a Light Blue and White can...Thats what most people used way back when I did autobody repair. We used buy it from a glass shop back then. I still buy that stuff to this day.

You can find it at Sam's club in a 3 pack for about $8-$9. I have also seen it at Target...Its a great glass cleaner!

I have a hard time getting windows streak free with Micro Fiber...I usually borrow a bunck of paper towels from the local gas station...seems to work good. I also have some towels that we used to get from our uniform service...they called them windshield towels...they are not terry, but are cotton...

For what it's worth!

Cool

OK, so now you have a film build-up of every product that you've ever used on the windshield. And no matter what you use to wipe it clean, you are relentlessly smearing every bit of it every time you wipe it. The solution? Plain Distilled Water, or filtered water, or tap if that's all you have. Spray a fine mist and wipe with a clean towel everytime until it squeeks. In extreme cases, and I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you have good dexterity, a light scraping with a razor blade may be needed. I was in industrial, commercial and residential cleaning for many years. You would be amazed at how well just plain water really cleans .
