Cool spring cleaning

how many of you out there have gotten your babies cleaned up and ready for shows, rides, or just plain waxed and respectable looking? i just did mine today and it took me a few hours, i still need to polish the bumpers and clean the interior.

What I want to know is how in God's name did you detail your truck in a few hours -- it typically takes me that long just to wash a vehicle.....

The week before last my "summer" daily driver ('09 Ranger in Oxford White) got it's preseason detail and is sitting in the garage ready to go for it's first outing of the year!

Next up will by my Mustang ('08 GT in Grabber Orange) which is sorely overdue for some love. The next time I have a slow week at work I'm going to take a couple of days off and give it a good detailing inside and out!

Unfortunately, my F-150 will have to wait until summer for it's once-over -- I just moved it over to my storage unit (covered in a thick layer of garage dust) where it will remain until June or so when I'll have some time to take it out a give it some attention.....

There's a LOT more to "detailing" than a simple "wash and wax".

pffftt IM CONFUSED! It takes me that long to get the soap/water mixture ratio and the water temperature/bubble size correct before I even touch the truck....

To "detail" a vehicle means many different things to many different people. For some, it truly is just a wash. For those of us caught up in the OCD quicksand, it can take days. (Lord help us!) A full inside & out detail generally takes me the better part of a whole day.

The same goes for "restoration" of a vehicle. I remember looking at a rather ratty looking car at a show one day and a guy walked up to me and proudly said his son had "totally restored it." I resisted the urge to say something silly like "What did he do, wash it?"

Ain't that the truth! I've learned over the years that the most important questions to ask after someone tells you a car has been completely restored is "who did it" and "did they have even the slightest clue about what they were doing"......

Look at the bright side. Um, wait a minute, there probably isn't one. Never mind. We feel your pain. Carry on.

Mine has been the neglected one :o Several weeks ago I did my brothers' 02 Lariat Scab. Yesterday I started my neighbors' (nice ole feller ) 07 Dodge Ram Club cab with a nice, high Leer cap.

Both trucks got washed/dried, clay barred, Detailer Pro Poli-Coat paint sealant then NXT 2.0. The neighbors' truck has never been waxed, and the was a bunch of brake dust in all the wheels, which I scrubbed out. Also cleaned up the exhaust tip.

Today I am gonna do his interior, and wax the cap.

Man... that truck has alot of real estate but it is looking sweet... all thanks to the gurus here on F150Online

If you want to try an easier cleaning route, try some PoorBoys Spray & Rinse wheel cleaner.

Stuff works wonders. I got a sample, and scoffed at it ( what could work better than getting in there a scrubbing it ?? ), gave it to dad. He used it on mom's vehicle, which is almost a cast wheel and always filthy.
They were sparkling clean, he showed me I could not believe it.

I have been using it for a few years now.

Just used it on the sister in law's new to her ( used-'03 ) Stang wheels when she got it. No clue when they were last cleaned, car is in bad shape.

Before
Front

Rear

After

Front

Rear

Hands nor brush or mitt never touched the wheels.
Hose down a cold wheel with water, spray on.
The dwell time was what it took to walk around the car spraying all of them, and then pick up the PS to rinse them off. Maybe 7 min total ??

Stuff works wonders.
