Finally found some 20" wheels in my area however I do not know if I will be able to get these looking good as new? (notice the browning at the end of the spokes) Sorry the picture is so big I just wanted to show the detail...

 

Good cleaning and clay should clean them right up. Mine are worse than that right now and they are on the truck.

clean them , clay them, polish, then wax them.

 

They dont look that bad to me. I think a good cleaning will make them look really good. As far as the polishing goes, what would you polish them with that wont take the clearcoat off?

 

Anything that you would use on the paint...........

A high quality wheel cleaner such as Sonax Full Effect, Griot's Garage HD Wheel Cleaner, or P21S along with a high quality wheel brush will all do the job. If the wheels are severely neglected, you can also clay them to remove harsh embedded contaminants.

 

When someone uses the word polish i immediately think of a high speed metal polish, like something you would use to bring back a dull aluminum, which is why i was asking since using that method would obviously destroy any clearcoat on the wheel. So, since the words polish and wax were used together, i wanted to know what specific polish detailersdomain was recommending.

 

For something over the counter, "polish" in this case would be something like Meguiars Ultimate Compound. For wax, use a synthetic as it has better heat resistance than a carnauba.

get some low grade acid and spray it on... let it sit for about 10 seconds and spray it down real good with water... they'll look like new

 

I would not spray acid on a coated wheel!

 

Agree, that's a no-no. Too many good wheel cleaning products out there to have to resort to acid.

 

I don't know if it's okay to do or not, but I've used Nevr-dull on my OEM 20's when I had some bad brake dust spots that wouldn't come clean.

 

I also wouldn't use Nevr-Dull on coated wheels! Don't use anything on them that you wouldn't use on your paint! The coating is the same clearcoat that's on the rest of the truck!
