Post ugly decals

Hey guys, I recently bought a 2000 sport. I need your help on what the best way to get decals off is. Those orange sport stickers on the bed, just dont do anything for my truck and I want them off. I would also like to take the dealer decal off as well.

Do you just heat them up and then peel it off?
Can you use something like mineral spirits to help take off the sticky that is left behind?

Any help would be great!

I've removed sticker glue with WD-40 before and it worked well. I think a hair dryer (or heat gun on low) should help get the stickers off.

I have parking stickers for OSU that run me just over $100 a year, and every year I have to buy new ones. They make them very hard to get off so people don't steal them. WD-40 works great on breaking down the sticky glue. Indy has the right idea about heating up the decal to soften up that glue. I use hot water and a washrag to heat the decal up. Just get the rag wet and let it sit on the decal for about a minute. Then you should be able to start to peal it off. Then use the WD-40 to clean up the left over glue.

I've had complete success with a razor blade JUST ENOUGH to lift a corner. But you REALLY have to be careful, keeping the blade nearly parallel to the surface. Also, "Goo Gone" gets that glue off real fast. Safe for your finish.

Thanks for all the help, I will give it a try this weekend. I realize that the sport stickers on a 2000 are supposed to be red, but on a black truck they sure do look orange to me (tacky)!

The best thing that I have found is something called Sticker Shock sold at any Advance Auto Parts (where I work). It will actually eat away at the sticker glue without harming the paint, unlike WD-40 which just softens the glue. It's about 3.99 for a 6oz spray can. It worked well for me and all my customers.

Cool

Hairdryer for 30 sec, use your fingernail to get a edge, then it pulls right off. I used Maguiers cleaner/wax to take off the goo. Looks sooooo much better w/o. No more math problem on my truck.

Definately us a hair dryer to remove the sticker. To remove the glue , I have used lighter fluid. It works excellent. The fluid evaporates quickly so it does not harm your paint.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all this info - I was going to post the same question & then I read this! I want to remove the dealer decal from the tailgate & then wax the truck so this came in very handy!
Starfi - the rims look like the ones I have on my truck so I'm going to say that they are the stock rims. I have 17" rims, 265/R70/17 Kelly's if that helps. Only problem with the 17" rims is there really are very few tire choices out there, at least not as many as for the 16's. Hope this helped!

starfi, the rims that 2000F150 has on his truck are from Ford. They used to come as part of the offroad 4x4 package. Had them on my 97 F150. My 99 F150 came with chromed steel rims, but I think you can get those as an option still. They're a 17inch rim, not sure of width. The tires are usually 265/75/17 Goodyear Wrangler RT's or AT's. Check with the dealer for better info.

Hope this helps.

Bob
