Question stp oil treatment--your opinion--good?bad?

are any oil additives needed with the oils we have today? I used stp for years and often wondered if i was throwing money away.

My personal opinion is don't waste the money. Spend a little extra and use a good oil like Mobil 1 and a good quality oil filter. Avoid Fram oil filters like the plague.

The only sure thing about oil additives is that there's a high probability that it could void your warranty if you blow your engine.

Thumbs down

Oil treatments are a waste of money. Change your oil and filter at regular intervals for best results.

Avoid any oil additives -- They don't work and may possibly void your warranty. Stick with a quality brand oil and filter and change them both regularly.

The only time I used to use STP was to coat the metal to metal moving parts when overhauling engines. That's until somebody showed me how to pull out the distributor, stick a shaft down the hole into the oil pump and using a 1/2" drill, you spin the pump and lube the engine.
