removing heavy scratches...

well the PO of my truck mus have used it as a brush truck or something cause its got some HEAVY scratches in it. and not just a few, ALOT. too many for touch up paint really. im not sure they'll buff out with just normal buffing. is there any product that would help? im not looking to get rid of every little scratch, just some of the big ones that are close together keeping me from getting a nice looking shine.

If you run your finger nail across the scratch and you can feel it then they're too deep to fix. If your nail doesn't get caught in the groove then I would use a very mild compound first then a polish.

Are you working by hand or machine (DA)?

If you have deep scratches you will probably need a Dual Action machine or a Flex. If you work by hand....good luck.
2 products that work together from 2 different companies
Meguiars
M105 Compound
M205 Polish

Optimum
Hyper Compound Spray
Hyper Polish Spray

A product that can be worked by hand and bought locally is Meguiars Ultimate Compound. From what I remember off hand, it's close if not equal to M105.

As mentioned, if the scratch can be felt, detailing won't remove it.

if the scratches are big, you might have to respray them if you don't want it to look like crap.

I have repainted an area with spray cans from TouchUpPaintOnline.com. It was a quarter inch wide and maybe around 8 inches long, right above the front left fender. I covered up everything else, sanded it, and painted. It looks really nice now and you can't even tell it was ever there.

heavy scratches

I just had the opportunity to put the Megs. ultimate compound to a test. My wifes cousin came over with her new Mercedes. Some kind of screenhouse was dragged across the whole side of her car when we had some heavy winds. She described it as wrought iron, but I havent seen many wrought iron screen houses. Anyway the car was pretty scuffed up. Scratches , abrasions, dents but nothing through to the primer. I only used a cheap wal mart special 6 " hand buffer, and the Megs compound did the job followed by the swirl remover and some cleaner wax. I was surprised I got it all out. All done in under an hour. I did my good deed for the day.
