Question Is my truck a rare find?

About 3 months ago I purchased a '99 Flareside Extended Cab 2x4 Lariat. My truck is solid burgandy with tan interior. I think Ford calls it dark toreador red. Most Lariats have the two tone paint. I have been told that since mine is a solid color that it is rare find or a limited edition model. Does anyone have any info that could prove or disprove this thought. I bought the truck used from a friend who wholesales cars. The truck came out of Michagan and was supposedly a Ford exec vehicle. Thanks

I am not an expert on the subject, but it does sound like a pretty rare find. I have NEVER seen a solid colored Lariat. Sounds like you found yourself a winner, unless somebody added Lariat stripes and badges to the truck and screwed you out of extra money. One way to tell will be the side badges on the truck. If they only say, "F-150 Triton V-8" then you've probably got a Lariat. If they say "F-150 XLT Triton V-8" then you've got an XLT with Lariat stripes. A guy at work got the Lariat stripes put on his XLT. It looks good, but I know it's not a Lariat. It kinda reminds me of another guy I know with a '84 K-5 Blazer that has Z-71 stickers on the side.

Cool

Mine is a Lariat!
I thought '98 was the last year for the Dark Toreador Red color (which is what mine is)

Thumbs up

A little more rare than usual. I have a solid black 2000 Lariat Flareside. The only way you can tell it's a Lariat (from the outside) is by the pinstriping and by the badging mentioned above (no XLT). The inside has the tan leather Lariat-embossed leather seats.

With the F-150 being the best selling vehicle on the planet, I doubt any of these trucks are rare. There were only 6000 94 Cobras made and I see one at least once a week (not mine ). And many have been totaled since production.

I believe what would make your truck rare would be that it is a 4X2 Lariat. It's very difficult to find a Lariat 4X2 on a dealers lot that was not special ordered.

Also as 2000 F150 4x4 states with more than 800,000 F-series trucks produced a year, it's hard to imagine one rare other than Lightnings or the 98 NASCAR edition.

I thought I was ordering a rare one, but have been surprised at the number I have seen. Raoul has one just like mine except his is the toreader red that was discontinued after the '99 model year. The reg cab option for Lariat's was also discontinued after the '99 model year.

I just wanted to add a little point to this.
On my title it reads "F-150 LAR"
I'm assuming that stands for Lariat?
If so, then you'd be pretty sure it's a Lariat.

if your truck has leather interior then its a lariat, plus you should have a lariat pinstripe going f/ the nose to the end of the cap - unless you or some one else took it off.

this last weekend I saw a solid green lariat and 2 solid black lariats.
i have also seen a reg cab long bed lariat and a reg cab flareside lariat.

Question

I have the same truck as Matt00Lariat except with the 4.6L. Does that mean it is still rare?

I had the pinstriping removed, too 'flashy.'

If a 4x2 Lariat is rare, what about a 4x2 Lariat Longbed?

Yep, I ordered my 2000 Lariat BLACK ONLY, I didn't want 2tone paint - the dealer had no idea you could even order it that way, so I made him enter it and lo-n-behold - it worked...dumb dealer....however, I couldn't get it without the stickers, so I had to remove those hideous things as soon as I got a chance!!!much better now...ahhh

In '98 two-tone paint was optional on the lariats (a downgrade to keep the base price the same as '97s). I really don't know if that changed in '99 or not.

Jay St. Peter
Really rare '98 lariat 2wd 5-speed, but I did get the common two-tone paint option
