Question Wax On Black Plastic

The last time I waxed my truck I got some wax on the Black plastic bed caps. How do I get it off? What to use and where to get it?

1)First Westleys Bleach White and a soft tooth brush (use your kids cause he ain't usin it anyway) or a detail brush then Mother's "Back To Black". A lot of times Back to Black alone will do it.

2) Get em at PepBoys, Walmart, etc.

I used plain ole car wash soap and a cheap sponge, the kind you wouldn't use on your paint. Rubs right off.

I'd use a soft bristle tooth brush and your normal car wash. The guys at my dealership said I should not put anything else on the black plastic of my truck.

I'll abide by that as long as it stays black.

Good luck!

Great ideas here to get that crap off. To prevent it from getting there in the first place I use masking tape on all that black plastic stuff, including the mirrors and the plastic around the rear window.

Crow150,

Now I have to admire a guy who tapes off his truck everytime he waxes it. Wow, you are my hero! Or maybe you just have too much time on your hands? LOL

I use armor all on all of my plastic and rubber after washing and waxing. The Armor All gets the wax over spray off my rubber with ease.

cybweed,

Quick story..when I had my 98..I took it in to have a wheel vibration checked out. The Ford Service Manger went with me on the test drive..and happened to notice that I had recently used armor all on the interior. He said that was fine..but NOT to use it on the exterior plastic. He said it will, in time turn it grey and ruin it!

I used armor all on my 92 Mazda 626 black trim for years..and it did turn grey! Since it is messed up... I still apply armor all (or now tire wet)..it returns to its black color..but in a short time...turns grey again. I have never used armor all on my F-150 exterior plastic (2000 anyway)...I was using 'tire wet' and now use Meguiar's tire gel. Seems to work great.

Just wanted to let you know....

Yes, I had the same problem with the stuff. Mothers "Back to Black" does not do this.

Try Black Chrome..(if you can find it)it works great... and it lasts a lot longer than an application of Armor All.

I have been using a product called "Black Again" that works wonders on plastic, vinyl, and rubber. I get it at www.autotoys.com .

It is activated by UV rays, they say to use the product and then park the vehicle in the sun for a while and it'll take those gray plastics back to black. It works great on vinyl tops too.
