Post Coating on Frame?

Does anyone know what the coating on the frame of the truck is? It is not paint. I have areas where it has been scraped and is starting to rust and I would like to repair it with the same material if possible.

Thanks,

Todd

I think its some kind of oilbased undercoating, I hate it, everything, especially the sand sticks to it.

I agree with GinosF150, everything does stick to it. It is not unusual for people to see me on my hands and knees at the car wash power spraying the grim off the frame.

From what I am told, the coating on these newer frames is a paraffin (wax) based rust preventative. Stuff is kind of a mess, isn't it?....j.b.

Thanks,

A possible solution.....spend $350 and get your truck undercoated. I have an '84 F150 that was undercoated when my dad bought it new, and there are little or no visible signs of rust on the frame or undercarriage (after 16 years!). I'm going to have my 2000 F150 undercoated also. I don't know if they're still in business, but Ziebart's is who undercoated my '84 F150.

Thumbs up

Hey Stilts:
Zeibart is in business and still does it. My 2000 F-150 is due in the week of October 18th, and I made arrangements for the dealer to take it to Zeibart right away for undercoating and smoke window tint. The undercoating cost is around $170.

Cool

Ziebart is awesome! A couple years ago I was looking at purchasing a 79 Bronco that had it done when it was purchased new. NO RUST!!! I couldn't believe it, but it made a believer out of me. The frame can be touched up with a can of rubberized undercoating. I'm not too worried about rust though, Ford Zinc dips the bodies for rust prevention. Zinc is the best thing since sliced bread!

You can also buy a can of spray undercoating really cheap, and use it to touch up any areas that have been scraped off. I did that when I installed my grill guard and my DrawTite.
