bug coated radiator

any suggestions on cleaning bugs off a radiator. Anybody think that a wire brush will hurt anything?

wire brush i would think it would cause you a world of trouble i have always used a garden house or a high pressure washer i spray back to front. be careful of the fins or you will roll them

I would stick with a brass wire brush, and do it by hand if you're going that route.

But first I would pretreat with a bug wash and use some high pressure water i.e. at a car wash. You'll get most of them out that way.

Just use a tire cleaner brush from your local wally world. These have stiff plastic brissels. Dont use any brush with metal brissels. Just my opinion.

I use a stiff bristle 1" round brush and hand clean. I don't use any water. The bugs will come off easier if it's dry. My brush was purchased at a local auto parts store.

This is a nylon brush and it will not damage the fins...

imo using a a very stiff bristle brush will damage the fins i would pretreat with with a soap and use a garden hose or high press washer and be real careful of the fins if you roll some they make a tool to straighten them out hope it works out for you.

thanks for all the info. I did not know that water sprayed from behind would go through to front.

I will try to clean by hand first when it is dry. Then loosen up with some warm soapy water and continue to clean. Finally, if there are any more lil buggers I will work (gently) with a brush with plastic bristles.

avoid the problem altogether by installing a redneck bug screen in front of your radiator. Get some aluminum screen from home dope and install just in front the rad, use metal tie wire; DO NOT USE PLASTIC SCREEN OR PLASTIC TIES

This was one of the first mods I did to my truck when I bought my truck new about 3.5 years ago.I bought a bug screen at Walmart for about $4 cut it to fit and put it in front of my a/c condensor. My condensor has never been exposed to bugs.
