Newb making first order

So I decided to finally get into the detailing game all the way. I want to pick up one of the new Porter Cable XPs but I have no clue what pads and other stuff to get with it. How does this kit look? Would it be cheaper to order it all from ADS?

http://www.autogeek.net/porter-cable-meguiars-kit.html

It comes with:

orter Cable 7424XP Variable Speed Polisher
Porter Cable 7424XP Wrench
Porter Cable 7424XP Counter Weight
Dual Action Flexible 5 Inch Hook & Loop Backing Plate
32 oz. Meguiars Mirror Glaze #105 Ultra-Cut Compound
32 oz. Meguiars Mirror Glaze #205 Ultra Finishing Polish
3 CCS 5.5 Inch Orange Light Cutting Foam Pads
2 CCS 5.5 Inch Gray Finishing Foam Pads
2 Cobra Microfiber Detailing Cloths, 16 x 16 inches

I'll be using it to fix light surface scratches and swirl marks as well as general polishing and waxing. Should I go with a different backing plate size and different pads? I'm sorry for all the questions but like I said I'm a total noob at this stuff lol

Thanks for the help!

Might wanna throw in some 5.5 white Lake Country pads, or maybe even call them and see if they'll switch the orange ones for whites (or the equivalent in CCS). Orange might be a little harsh, but I'll let others chime in. For me, the white LC pads are what I use most of the time.

Not sure if it would be cheaper at ADS, but it seems like a good kit. More or less what you'd need to do some corrective work.

Detailing forums that I know of would be Detailer's Cafe and Autopia. Meg's also has a forum, but can't think of the url right now.

What wax are you going to use? Are you going to include glaze in the order as well, or are you just "dipping your feet" for now?

This looks like a pretty good deal, huh? I've been contemplating getting a kit of stuff to do a first detail on my 2008 (purchased in Dec.) and this may be too good to pass up. Have to run it by the boss though ... maybe if I do her car first.... that may help!

I'll probably use NXT 2.0 for right now, I have a bottle in the garage still. What is a good glaze? Thanks for the help!

Depends how much you wanna spend

Really, though, I'm not too sure myself. I've only really used 4 glazes so far, so I don't think it qualifies me yet

Meg's 7, Danase Wet Glaze (apparently this could technically be used as an LSP, but most use it as a glaze), ClearKote Vanilla Moose Hand glaze, and Wolfgang Glaze (apparently this one might not be a true glaze, but not sure.) All were used on a blue car (also used the Clearkote on my white Expy). I need to use them on more colors to be able to give a fair opinion...

I would like to keep it under 300 so that still gives me a pretty good amount to shop with. So how many different pads should I order overall? Should I have more white pads than finishing pads or the same amount or what?

Have you picked up a clay kit? Washing supplies (bucket, soap, grit guard, drying towel? Microfibers?

If you can get them switched, 3 whites and 2 blacks should be enough to start off.

Yeah I got all that stuff. I'll be placing the order as soon as I get the cash for my e-fans, I decided to go with 2 cutting, 2 polishing and 2 finishing right now. My moms car has a lot of surface scratches on it so I'll need the cutting pads to get those out. Thanks for all the help!

? Is this your first time using a machine? Why not purchase one of the G110 from ADS. I'm not trying to stir you away from what you have but this would be my order

http://www.autodetailingsolutions.net/g110-kit-2.html

G110 Package #2 $169.99

Package contains

Meguiar's G110 Polisher with 1-year factory warranty
- One Meguiar's W67DA Velcro backing plate
- Two Meguiar's W8207 Foam Polishing Pad
- One Meguiar's W9207 Foam Finishing Pad
- 3-Pack of Meguiar's Supreme Shine Microfiber Towels
- One FREE Meguiar's Duffle Bag!
- One FREE Meguiar's M20512 Ultra Finishing Polish!

If you just purchase one more finishing pad you have 2 polishing and 2 finishing. use the extra money for some HD and Shampoo Plus

M105

It comes with some 205 to get you started.

I didn't really do the math but isn't this cheaper than your order and it comes with 3 Supreme Shine MF to get you started

Thats exactly what I'm doing pmason, just forgot to update that in the thread. I've been doing a ton of reading and looking at before and afters and I think that kit will work out just fine and save me some money compared to how I priced it out before.

I'll be ordering:

G110 kit
1 extra finishing pad
105
M7
M26
HD

and that should set me up good to go. I can't wait!

No NXT 2.0? You can top NXT 2.0 with M26 and it will look great. I'm going to be honest with you. If your truck is not bad off your probably won't even use M105. M205 can work wonders on it own. I've hit a few cars with M205 then NXT 2.0 alone. Only once in a blue will I top NXT 2.0 with M26 b/c its recommended that it cures about 12 hours b4 applying it. What ever you do don't forget your clay b/c these steps are pretty much useless without claying first in my eyes. M7 is nice but your probably going to happy with the results after 205 and you didn't even apply the wax yet, lol.

One other thing make sure you have some Quik Detailer, M34 or final inspection to go with that clay.

To save money on shipping, and possibly be a cheaper price, you can get M7 and M26 at Advanced and Autozone.

Agreed, unless you plan on attacking a vehicle with serious swirl, I'd skip the 105 if money is an object. I'd replace it with some locally bought Ultimate Compound and an orange pad.

I'd recommend 2 finishing pads as you almost are always going to use one for a sealant or glaze and other for wax.

Those are both double the cost that ADS charges at my local autozone
