Question G110 vs. 7424/G100 vs. Flex

I have a good handle on what products I want to buy and try out, but I'm a little undecided on which DA to go with....

Pros? Cons? of each.

I waited too long and missed out on the G100A (at least with Rick), and didn't know if the G110 was just as good, or better....

I figure I'm going to spend about $400-500 either way (DA and products), and was just looking for some opinions on what machine to start out with (no DA experience as of now).

Are the G100 and the 7424 the same machine other than branding?

Thanks fella's

Branding and warranty. G100 is lifetime, 7424 is 1 year.

The Flex is being highly recommended here these days.

If you can swing the extra money I would recomend the flex! I bought a g100 and then shortly after upgraded to the flex... Flex is leaps and bounds better at breaking down and working the products. Its a far superior machine, and its still user friendly!

Both are good.

I have 2 DA (did have 4) and one Flex. I prefer the Flex.

Flex:
Pros: more power, faster, gradual speed up, great trigger to control
Cons: cost, not as fast as a High Speed (which is both a pro and a con)

DA:
Pros: affordable, works great, fun to use
Cons: can take longer to get deep marring out, not as fast as a Flex for correction work

I still think people should cut their teeth on a DA first, but if you are handy with tools and understand the principle of the thing you should be ok. With any machine if done improperly, you will do damage

Always helpful.. I was wondering all these questions myself.

Still one left unanswered however, G100 vs. G110, whats the difference?

Not sure really. The new one looks like a Harbor Freight type product. (but its not)

May be mistaken but I think the G110 is a little stronger than a G100

"Not sure" words RR rarely says. I can't wait to get my hands on a DA. I believe a buddy of mine has one down the street, i'm gonna have to get my feet wet by borrowing his machine and see what i got!

I will tell you when I am out of my element. G110's are out of my element, from what I have heard here and from the guys at Wash Solutions, it appears to be a good machine.

The G110 *IS* 20%~ stronger than the G100. BUT, the G110 has been breaking left and right...and only has a 1 year warranty...sooo....

I own a G100, and used a G110...didn't seem all that different to me. Either way, you will still need a FLEX to do major corrections or obtain flawless finishes in less than a decade on dark cars.

The G100 is the same thing as a Porter Cable 7242. The G100 is just a relabeled unit by Meguiars. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. However since Meguiars stopped producing them, there is now a problem. If your G100 breaks, you get a G110. The warranty on that is only 1 year. Kind of crappy.

I'd get a PC 7424, it's an awesome machine. Flex says that you can't damage your paint by it, just like the PC7424, but I think it's possible.

I agree completely. The DA is a great machine and people shouldn't overlook it so fast.

do the Flex and the PC both have the same dual-action motion? or does the Flex just spin like a rotary? (I've read the description a few times on ADS but still wasn't sure)

I saw that the G110 stops if you apply too much pressure, looks like the Flex does not? does the PC 7424 stop as well with too much force?

No the flex actually spins the actual buffer pad like a rotarty but adds in 8mm of travel out side that spinnig thus being a true dual action. The PC just has the random motion and does not spin the pad on top of the random motion. I believe.... someone step in with a better description please its been of of those days....

Both are DA, but the Flex has more power, a longer stroke, and forced rotation.

longer stroke = more orbital (out of round) movement?

forced rotation = won't stop under too much load?

so if i have this right, on the PC and G110 the spindle doesn't actually spin on its own, it just orbits?

Also: anyone seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yht1uHJLNlQ
