OCD - Our Darkest Secrets

As many of you have come to realize, several of us who frequent this forum are just a bit OCD. Truth be told though, most of us didn’t start that way. In fact, I’d be willing to bet that there are some deep, dark secrets out there.

In order to help others overcome their fear of admitting to the world that they actually jacked up their truck to align the Ford blue ovals on their center caps for a picture, I thought some of us should come clean about past sins.

So I’ll start this one. I’m Tom and I’m OCD. It’s not my fault though. It all started way back when I bought my first car – a 1970 Chevy Nova. (First big admission) Then I started to try to make it look better by fixing it up and taking care of it. My very attempt at auto detailing involved a product called J Wax Kit. (Second big admission) It’s been downhill ever since. OK, who’s next?

I've been downhill since I bought my first vehicle a 1990 BMW 525i for $3,000. It's pretty much the same scenario. It's all been down hill from there.

Come on guys, you can do better than that. I'm looking for the deep, dark secrets. For instance, I'm waiting for RockPick to come clean on his use of Turtle Wax on his tricycle.

Mine started in 2001 with my Screw. It's gotten worse and worse since then. Last year I purchased a new lawn mower. Before I ever mowed with it, I waxed it (even the wheels).

My name is Dave and I am OCD. I used Armor All on the steering wheel and vinyl seat in my dads work truck when I was 10 and the next corner he took he ended up in the passenger seat. I also have a coronary when someone eats something in my truck and spills on the seats. I want to strangle my step son when he puts sticky finger prints on my freshly cleaned windows.

Hi, I am Ryan, and I am OCD. (moderator: "Very good, Ryan. Remember everyone, the first step to recovery is in admitting you have a problem. Go on, Ryan.")

When I got my F150, I was determined to make it look good. So, for my birthday, my girlfriends bought me a bunch of car care supplies (blue coral wash, wax-as-u-dry, Wallyworld MFs), a friend bought me a set of brushes, and I went to town. Yep, my truck was washed with stiff brishes and BC wash... And everyday I would wipe down the truck (without QD spray...dry)

So then I decided to wax it. I found this old No. 7 polish and cleaner and decided that was kinda like wax. I applied and removed with a T-shirt. I was very pleased with the results...

Then I found this site. I started asking a LOT of questions, and RP taught me a vast majority of what I know. I started off with the DC system. Then I got NXT. Then slowly but surely, my arsenal grew, as did my techniques.

Then one day, a friend gave me an orbital polisher. He didnt like it, but knew it was right down my alley. I figured out all sorts of crazy things you could fix with that thing, and TBH, I still have it ready just in case the DA dies...

Then I got a DA (Thanks RR) and more chemicals and experience. I have been way off the deep end for awhile.

Oddly enough, the things I am OCD about consist of my lawn (I know, RP-- you are too), my truck, my firearms, my garage, etc. When I do decide to clean my room (once every 2 weeks or so...consists of putting the folded laundry in the drawers instead of on the chair), I am all-out OCD about it.

Here is a brief history of before I for a truck:
I used to wash my bike (yeah, the ones you pedal) weekly. Every month I would clean the chain and re-lube everything. I was tuning my shifters/gears and brakes before I even knew how to drive. When I washed my bike, I used tire shine on the tires...(Maybe that's why I have such an affinity to HD )

Before that, I used to wash my Matchbox cars in the sink every month or so or when they got dirty to keep them going strong. I never packed them in such a way that they would get scratched.

There. I said it. NEXT!!!

Wow!! Hahaha!!

I'll be the first to say I'm a complete new comer when it comes to detailing using the multitude of products y'all use but, I am still pretty OCD using the few products that do use. (I bought all your recommended goodies now just need a place and time to use them)

It all started with my first car, a white 1991 Ford Explorer. My friends and I were heavy into the offroading and mudding scene so the white paint was all too frequency brown, or worse. So, the day after an outting I would completely transform the car from poop brown to gleaming white. The reasons for doing it a day later were:

1) You have to show off how dirty the car got
2) It took at least 8 hours to complete the transformation

The good ol' days. Now, I live in an apartment and don't get to wash my truck properly. Only a month and a half before I move to a house with a drive way!!! YAY!!

Oh yea, my name is Bart and I'm partly OCD.

My name is Dustin, and I am ocd. It all started when I was a little boy growing up. My dad had a 1969 camaro rs/ss all original with less then 20k on the ticker. On the weekends we would start with just a simple wash on the vehicles. Then came my 16th birthday.... I got my first car, a 1994 camaro z28. I worked all summer long to earn the money needed to buy that car. And so began my ocd, I started out with little or no guidance in the detailing relm. I started my voyage with just the simple detailing products such as turtle wax, and armor all. And so I continued the venture with these tools thinking I really had something, until one day I crossed paths with a beauty of a truck, I just knew I had to have it. So I purchased this truck, and one day while searching for mods, I came across a certain forum. I sign up and start browsing the vast amount of information, until with out warning I stumble into the Care and Detailing section. And from that moment I was hooked, there was no turning back. And I know show the old man, what a truely clean vehicle should look like. Thanks for the support in helping me come clean.

Hello, I'm Brett and I'm OCD.

It all started when I got a 2001 Mercury Cougar. I met a friend who competed SQ in stereo competitions and had him install a stereo for me (now, that is an udder passion for me installing) but anyway.. going to car shows I would always wash my vehicle and clean out the interior.

Then, we found the beauty of a clay bar. Wow, we were all amazed at the difference it made.. just clay bar then Meg's Gold Class.

Then, I found this place *sigh*. I went from spending $15 on a claybar and $10 on a bottle of Gold Class wax to a currently, a little over $400 on supplies like a DA and all that stuff. But, I must say, everyone in my town always comments on how clean my truck looks and everything, it makes me feel good about spending like 10-12 hours on cleaning it when i polish and everything.

Thanks guys, its all because of you!

I do the snowmobiles and jets skies on top of that! I even use hd on the tracks to keep them nice and black looking. And the jet skies get the wax and de-winterized this weekend. And I would agree it is a good way for us all to feel better about what we do.

I have many little quirks that add up to a monster.. I used to think I was bad until I met this person who folds his dirty laundry.

My name is RollingRock and while I consider myself OCD I am probably more in the group of OTTOCD. That means, Over the Top OCD.

My OCD'ness if you will is really with only a few things and mainly detailing.

My deepest OCD problems?

I have clayed every window on my house...my daughters bike and my bike have been clayed and a coat of Nattys Red is applied about every 2 months.

I keep 2 gallons of distilled water in my truck tool box along with two collapsible buckets, some ONR, QD, MF's and a few other cleaning supplies. I usually buy two of every product so I can keep one at the house and 1 on the the camper.

I Hyperdress just about everything in cluding extension cords, my camper frame, RV underbelly, black/grey tanks..you name it. Lawnmower wheels and engine (its a Honda so it looks nice) Even my camper gets detailed, it has been clayed, polished, sealed and toped with C845 3 times since we bought it in Sept. I have been know to use PB NLD on computer keyboards, mice etc, office chair, phone etc. After cleaning my guns I sometimes put a little PB NLD on the plastic parts....

I really don't feel like disclosing any more in fear of the padded room and tight fitting jacket but the above should be a good indicator of how my mind works....

Ladies and Gentlemen...... I think we have a winner! One thing's for sure, I thought I was already OCD, but when I came to this site, I became OCD'er

It all started for me when I got my first car back in '81. It did not matter that it was a hunk of junk, but it was a shiny clean hunk of junk!

I'm the guy that's out there washing his car/truck in 30 degree weather cause I can not stand the sight of a spec of dirt on my truck. I check my kids shoes before I let them in. I to carry stuff to do a quick clean if I have to. If I just washed my truck and I see water on the road, I avoid it by driving out of the way if I have to. I could go on and on, but I think you all get the picture!
