How do I remove 3M tape?

Well, I couldn't find any threads to answer my question so...

I just bought a 2000 Lariat that has a non-functional stick-on hood scoop. The person I bought it from installed it last year. I found the one they bought at PEP BOYS...it was installed with 3M tape only...no screws. It is obvious that it's non-functional and it has to go!!!...but not at the expense of my paint job.

My question is...
What is the best way to remove this thing without screwing my paint job?

Thanks for any help!!!

Get some 20lb test line fish string start and one end and slide it between the hood and scoop and if its tape it should slowly cut threw the tape.

That, and some 3M Adhesive Remover. Or Goo Gone.

Thanks. I didn't think about using fishing line...definitely have some of that!

Zaairman- I have Goof Off, which I think is the same as Goo Gone. But will this hurt the clearcoat?

Fishing line would work too...good call. I've always used dental floss.

Nope... It shouldn't. I've used the EXTREME GOO GONE on everything on my truck... The dash board, the leather/vinyl, and the paint and everything looks great.

Just be sure to apply a coat of wax to the area, just to be safe.

Spray a little WD-40 on the leftover tape and let it soak for a while and the adhesive will let go with no damage to the paint.

I wouldn't have thought of WD40. It sounds like the consensus is fishing line (or dental floss---creative!) and Goof Off, followed by a good coat of wax. Thanks everyone for your help.

Just an idea, to be on the safe side it may be worth adding beeswax or a paste wax to the fishing line. I used this method for getting emblems off an older car and had no issue, a lil extra lube is never a bad thing. Most dental floss is already waxed so that shouldn't be an issue if you go that route.
