New Topper (Cap) wax question?
New Topper (Cap) wax question?
I just got a leer cap installed on my truck. The dealer told me that i could not wax the cap for 90 days. Do you guys think its okay to use eagle one wax as you dry and the quick detailer spray with carnuba in it? Just curious. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd go ahead and wait the full 90 days before you use anything with wax in it. The idea is to let all the VOC's and stuff out of the paint (right??? That's what curing does???).
Play it safe. Why risk ruining it?

When I got my cap on my Ranger, I waited like 4 months before waxing it. It sucked, but I waited. Not sure what would happen, but it won't hurt, and LEER warranties it for 5 years, so I'd just follow their directions.

It is CRITICAL that the delivery agents used to get the solids in the paint to your topper are allowed to flash off. That said, it must be free of 'stuff' that is designed to seal.
For now, you need to stick with simple washing. Be careful right now though -- the paint *will* be softer and thus, more susceptible to the introduction of paint problems like swirls and straight line scratching from washing and/or drying.

Catalyzed, as most know, is 'baking' the paint (which is done at the factory because of emission limitations and such).

So what about Ford dealer repaired paint? . . uncatalyzed paint?
How long would you wait before waxing?
PS: This sucks!

A sealant isn't a 'true wax' either (no natural waxes in it) but, it seals -- as does Ice.
Actually, I thought the ICE commercial that I saw earlier today even said it was 'carnauba derived' or something.... carnauba = natural wax.
Oops.... I guess I should have waited to wax my hood then. So what exaclty would happen to the paint if it were to be waxed before all of this stuff was out of the paint??? I really hope it doesn't screw up my hood.
Ok now should I strip the wax or is the possible damage already done????

One more thing I just realized my passenger doors and front fender were just repainted from my accident. So Thump I'll let you know how long you should wait before waxing. I don't even think I waited a week. Crap I really hope nothing happens.
