I have a brand new black 2007 F-150 that came with the DISO. Whenever I wash it, I use the two bucket method, NXT wash, and microfiber drying towels. I used scratch-x and NXT wax on it the last time I washed it (both by hand), with little improvement. I am thinking of investing in a G-100 PC. Do yall think this will help at all? Is it even worth doing it myself or do I need to get it professionally detailed to get rid of these swirls? If I do get the G-100, which pads/products would you recommend?

Either of your two methods would probably do the job. Nothing I see is excessive but, I certainly understand that it's annoying.

If it were my dollar, I'd snare a G-100 kit from ADS and start learning... it's very simple and borders on 'idiot proof'. While at ADS, you might snare a 'how to video' highlighting the DA.

 

hey, man-- I'd agree with RP on this one: get a G-100 and have at it.

A little off topic, but...Where are you a firefighter at??? (I'm a firefighter, too, and there are many more on this site...)

This is the kit I purchased below. It comes with the quick release adapter which also keeps the pad perfectly centered. Some like Velcro style pads, but I prefer the simplicity in using the two in one or double sided pads. It also comes with a how to DVD, which is extremely helpful just starting out. It's hard to beat really for only 50 bucs.

It's my experience you would be better off purchasing the PC separately- I can vouch for this eBay seller, they've been around a long time. This is where I purchased mine anyway. You might be able to find one cheaper, but I seriously doubt it, not a brand new one, given the time of year it is.

My truck looked just like yours, I didnt clay but used #80 then #21 and the paint came out amazing.

 

Sight unseen, #80 is a safe bet. I mean, you may have to make several passes to get it if the swirls are deep and extensive but, #80 is just about as good of a 'multi-purpose' polish as their is available in my opinion.

Also, the 7424 is the same as a G-100 with the exception of one big difference... the G-100 comes with a LIFETIME warranty to the original purchaser. Other than that, they are the same machine.

That said, I'd definitely give www.autodetailingsolutions.com a hard look... their prices are as good as they come... the service that they provide is second to none... and their kits manage to get you everything that you may need in one shot. Needless to say, I highly recommend them based on past purchases (just dropped about $250 there over the weekend).

Hey if you don't mind me asking, how many applications of the #80 did it take for you?

 

Man that doesn't look that bad to be to be completely honest...I wouldn't worry about it.

I detail cars on the side and one of the easiest things to do to remove a lot of little fine scratches like that is just some Meguiars Scratch-X...I use that and a DA polisher and it works perfect. I actually use the same stuff after I buff with compound and a rotary buffer...then I'll go over that with some sealer with the DA and follow up with some polish by hand.

That scratch-X stuff works better than the stuff I get at the detail supply store for like $45 a bottle...and a little bit goes a really long way.

 

I did 2 applications of #80 then #21 but it rained as I finished #21 so a week later I washed the truck and did the #21 again. Waited 24 hrs and applied one coat of Mothers Syn wax. The paint looks like a mirror. I used a Sears orbital buffer with a foam pad. #80 did a great job of removing the swirl makes and the #21 brings out the shine. My thanks to RP for recomending these products.
