PC options?

Hey everyone, I've recently bought a black '04 Lariat. I'm trying to stay on top of the paint and remove as many minor scratches as possible in the process. Question is: What PC is recommended for someone who's startin out? I dont want to damage the clear coat the first month ownin the truck so i figured I should ask on the board. I noticed Walmart carried two lines of PCs and they seemed to be made of poor quality, but if it does the job for anyone else I would give their product a shot. Any help would be appreciated.

PC = Porter Cable

The only viable PC's to consider here in the US are the Porter Cable 7336SP or the 7424 or the Meguiar's G100 (which is made by Porter Cable). Buying a package deal with pads, backing plate, polishes, etc, can often save you money. In the near future, Autopia Car Care will be releasing a new dual action polisher that's both more powerful than the Porter Cable and has less vibration. This machine may be another good option to consider once it's released in the next month or so.

Another good dual action polisher is the Cyclo, but the machine itself costs about 2.5 times as much as a PC. The Cyclo is safe tool to operate, much smoother than a PC and has a long proven history in addition to having numerous accessories available.

The larger 8" or 10" orbital buffers you may be seeing at Walmart or autoparts stores are not PC's. These larger inexpensive machines are good for things such as applying wax, but they do not have the power, the actions, or pad selections available to correct swirls, scratches, etc.

Search this forum for the words "Porter Cable" and you'll find plenty of reading info on this topic.

The one you posted isn't too bad of a deal... but, you don't get any products to go along with it from a polish/wax standpoint. While that may not matter to some/most, it would to me if I was buying... Just an opinion.
