Question I need some wash/detail advice

I am going to wash my new 07 tomorrow or Friday and need some advice.I usually use a micro fiber covered sponge but will a wash mitt be better?Brand? And,I have the "Absorber",which is over 5 years old;should I invest in new one or buy one of those huge micro fiber towels? The paint is Dark Blue Pearl so I want to start out the correct way without scratching it or spider webbing it.

This is what I use. That and a leaf blower to dry with. Less touching of the paint obviously means less scratching.

I know, it looks weird, but trust me. Do some reading about it.

The Edge ShMitt wash mitt.

Good review of the ShMitt.

I would suggest staying away from the microfiber sponges .. I have never seen one that wouldn't induce at least some swirling ..

My preference is a good quality lambs wool or chenile was mitt ..

this is the one I am using on my own vehicles now .. RP recommended it, and I switched from the one I was using, and have been very pleased.

I will second what Gip said, then go further to say that you will find much better results staying away from the NXT wash pictured above. I'd reccommend either Gold Glass or California Gold if you want easy availibility, or for perfection, Poorboys wash, but the latter is a bit pricey...

Gold class comes in a very close second, though, due to it's extremely high lubricity and good sudsing action, reducin gthe chance for swirling.

Good Luck!!!

NXT wash is okay but, I concur that it's certainly not atop the list of readily available wash products.

That said, if you're doing a full detail, I wouldn't put a lot of worry in to what wash you're utilizing. That said, you'll obviously want to use the wash beyond your detail for general washing and, as such, I'd go with something like Gold Class Shampoo (Target = about $10 for a gallon--this is a GREAT deal).

What's the knock on NXT wash? I'm guessing price vs what you really get? Or is it the synthetic thing? Something else?

It may be just a marketing thing (Amped up yo) but I was drawn to the NXT wash for the "reduction of water harshness" or whatever it says. I haven't found that on other washes. Is that pure BS?

Through some research I've read time and time again how well the NXT works on dark or black color paints. And it sure is slickery coupled with soft water and the ShMitt.

Reviewer's Comments

NXT Wash is one of my favorite OTC washes.

I wash via foam gun and need a wash that comes in big sizes. At approximately $12 for 2 64 oz bottles this wash is a good value.

I'm impressed with NXT's performance. Cleaning ability is great, suds, both via foam gun and 2 buckets, last and there is ample lubrication between the mitt and the paint. Dirt foams off easily.

I'm most impressed with the water sheeting this wash provides. It comes right off. The gloss enhancers left behind leave the car gleaming!

I do find the fragrance of NXT to be a bit too strong and I've experienced periods when its availability has been limited. I tend to grab at least one when I see it locally.

Definitely add this wash to your to try list.

When I first tried it I was impressed with the slickness of the surface during and after the wash . It cleans very well and leaves a deep shine . A little goes a long way , 1 once per gallon is plenty of soap.

Not much I can really add here. It cuts through
most dirt and grime with ease, and leaves behind
a nice glossy after the rinse. My only problem
with this product is that sometimes it can leave
behind very slight water spotting, even after using
just the straight hose for the rinse. I think
the reason for this is maybe I used too much product,
or i am encountering hard water in the line. Still,
though, that's about the only problem i can really
think of with this product.

After dealing with alternative methods of car washing such as the Mr. Clean AutoDry and Eagle One Bucket-Free Car Wash, I realized that nothing beats a good old-fashioned bucket of car wash. So I switched to Meguiar's NXT Generation Car Wash.

Just as the label says, an ounce goes a long way. Once you start filling the bucket with water, the suds immediately foam out to the rim. Applying the suds is a breeze, as they foam out dirt and contaminants without scratching the surface. Even with hard water, the surface remains slick after rinsing. NXT Car Wash's special formula leaves less water spots than other brands. Plus, like all other NXT products, it has a unique, fruity scent.

If you're looking for a great product to wash your car, try Meguiar's NXT Generation Car Wash. You won't be disappointed.

This Mitt is made from very very soft polyester urethane foam. It's the waffle texture that allows the dirt to get knocked off by the tips and then move into the channels where it can drain out of the mitt. The foam is the softest type of foam known and will never scratch a surface. In fact it is made from our highest quality ultra fine high speed finishing foam that is made to last at 2000+ RPMs on a buffer. By hand not only will it not scratch, but it will outlast any hairy wash mitt which will leave tufts of hair ripped out on the wipers and lettering. Our Foam ShMiTT is also always cushioning and does not impart direct pressure on the paint the way the hairy mitts do once they become wet and the hairs all lay down. You also will love to put your hand into this Mitt because it does not feel like a wet moldy bag on your hand. The ShMiTT fits a hand like a glove and gives you total control to wash every crack and corner since it has an Edge all the way around. I think many of the nay sayers will be surprised to hear the reviews as they come in.

Thanks for all the support!

Opinions are like buttholes... everyone has one and anyone with an internet connection can post them...

That said, I have 4 full bottles of NXT Wash on the shelf in the garage right now. It's fine. Nothing special. Nothing horrible. I found a deal and bought two 6-bottle cases... (yes, 12 bottles). Obviously, I wouldn't have bought this stash if I thought it was garbage.... well, maybe... at $0.50/bottle + Shipping - well, it was hard to pass up.

I've never personally seen ANY effects from the 'water softening' qualities that it's said to possess. Further, I've not really seen any difference in water spotting abilities as it all claims to have.... what I have seen is a better than average Wal-Mart available wash that is spot on with the price. While it's certainly not in my top 3 washes available, it'll come in around #5 based on price, sudsing, lubrication, and overall usability.

In a nutshell... on a scale of 1-10, it gets a 7. There *are* better products... there *are* worse products (ZIPwax )

Exclamation

I got up early this morning and washed my truck.I used Turtle Wax (ZIPwax-RP ) and it worked just fine.I bought a "real" lamb skin wool mitt and that worked excellent! I dried it with an ABSORBER then followed that with micro fiber towels. Its shines very well and I have yet to polish/wax it yet.I still have yet to decide on a new wax/polish to use.........
