Talking Brake Dust Remover

Hey Everyone,

Is there a certain Cleaner just for brake dust? I have a 2006 Ford F-150 Supercrew Lariat Black with the Chrome Package. I have Chrome wheels and its seems as if on the Inner Chrome there is Lots of Brake Dust and It doesnt seem to be a Easy thing to remove. Any suggestions on Cleaner?

Thanks, Zach

The chrome wheels are pretty durable, so I'd use a 50/50 mix of Simple Green; let it soak, but not to the point of drying out. If 50/50 doesn't do it, then try it a little stronger.

I normally remove the entire wheel about every 6 months and scrub down both sides, then coat it with a wheel sealant. The sealant makes brake dust removal much easier. I have black wheels, though...

Another thing I did to fight the brake dust issue is to install Akebono Ceramic Brake Pads...So far, much less dust.

Do like so many on here, change out the pads, eliminate the source.

Same here, one reason I went with black wheels. This spring all pads will be replaced and probably rotors. Right now I have to wipe down my wheels every other day. Luckly I applied 2 coats of wax and its easy to wipe down the brake dust.

I bought this umm Michelin brake dust repelent stuff in a blue bottle from Auto Zone and it works great. It basically a spray on wheel wax that helps to reduce rough surface for the dust to penetrate. So once you get the wheels clean it helps keep em clean.

I've got it too, it seems to work almost as good as just putting wax on my wheels.

yah but for me its a pain to sit there and wax the stock wheels, im sure if they were painted/powerder coated it would be easier. I bought it to try it out, and will now continue to buy it b.c it works and its convinient

I'm with you on that Jimmy However, changing to semi-metallics plus black rims would be ultimate. In the meantime, don't let the dust and particles accumulate too long or it'll stick, just regular car soap and a dedicated mit solves the cleaning, maybe once a week.

I have American Racing polished aluminum wheels (no clear coat) and factory pads. I have no brake dust accumulation with these wheels, and I mean none.

Now, in the winter time I put the factory "clear coated" wheels back on and the brake dust accumulation is horrendous on these factory wheels.

Why that is, I dunno.
