I think that is an okay deal. I got my PC from
http://autodetailingsolutions.com/Po...20Specials.htm

Package number 2 is a good start and the PC comes with a lifetime warranty. Package 2 comes with enough products to get you started and then addicted to polishing your truck!

Hope this helps.

The best package deal going is from ADS.... easily, in fact.

You can also choose the Porter Cable 7336SP instead of the 7424. They're the same physical polishers, except the 7336SP uses the more popular 6" counterweight and it comes with a sanding disk, hence the suffix "SP" (Sander / Polisher). Coastal tools gives you the 6" counterweight as an upgrade, which simply turns the 7424 into a 7336. They both come with the 6" foam polishing pad, the wrench, etc. The Meguiar's G100 polisher is also a Porter Cable polisher, but it comes with a lifetime warranty 'ONLY' if you buy it from Meguiar's directly. If you're set on buying Meguiar's products, then Rick of Auto Detailing Solutions is a good place to deal with and his prices are hard to beat. You can usually find Meguiar's products at your local Paint, Body and Equipment stores such as Sherwin Williams, etc, if you need something local.

I would not recommend using the foam pad that comes with the Porter Cable on your vehicle's painted surfaces. Buy a series of pads meant for this task such as from Meguiar's, Lake Country, Edge, etc. You'll at least need a cutting pad, polishing pad and a finishing pad in addition to some good polishing products. The Edge pads are interesting. They do not use the conventional hook & loop backing plate and instead use a special adapter that screws onto the shaft of the Porter Cable. Some of the advantages to this are quick and simple pad changes, never have to buy backing plates, pads are always self centering for perfect balance, pads are dual sided, etc. The pads do cost more, but then you're really getting two pads in one. You can get great results no matter which brand you choose. And the same goes for many of the polishes out there (Optimum, Menzerna, Meguiar's, Pinnacle, etc).

In addition to using a rotary and a cyclo for various projects, I also use the Porter Cable 7336SP and its a very good tool for detailing if all you need to do is medium to mild correction.

Thank you all so much for the great info.

Rock Pick can you provide me with the link to ADS please sir.

And qadsan, where is a good place to get the 7336SP? I'm hoping it would be cheaper to buy VS. the 7424. I was looking at the 7336SP on the Porter Cable web-site, but I was unsure of the differences between the two, which you cleared up admirably.

Would Lowes or Home Depot carry either of these?

I was a little taken back at the price of these things, especially given the time of year. It's been snowing billy hell here in Mishawaka, Indiana the past week or so, with no let up in sight. I know I'm glad I have my truck even though she looks like a pig right now. Black paint and salt, yuck!!

Thanks again.

I've got a couple of the Porter Cable 6" random orbital sanders.....setup for wood sanding. Good, strong motors; dependable tools.

Nice post qadsan... very nice in fact. One note on your post -- Meg's will honor the warranty if it's purchased directly from one of Meguiar's end-sellers as well; not just Meg's direct.

www.autodetailingsolutions.com

Rick, as qadsan mentioned, is the owner. He and I met at Meguiar's Advanced 3-Day training a couple of years ago. He and his wife are both fantastic people that genuinely care about what they're selling and the customers that they maintain. For me, that's what I *really* look for in a company and, further, what draws me back as a repeat customer. Price, albeit that they are typically the cheapest, will come as a secondary item when I get customer service like Rick provides.

Based on conversations I'd had with Meguiar's employees and what I've read on the Meguiar's web site, I'm not so sure Meguiar's will honor the warranty if the G100 is purchased from one of their end-sellers, including ADS. Here's some interesting reading directly from Brian Hann of Meguiar's Customer Care on this exact topic...

Having said that, ADS is a terrific company. I would not hesitate to buy from them and I have bought from them. They're not a fly-by-night company and they'll take care of people who bought the G100 directly from them .

As far as finding the 7336SP, Home Depot does not carry them, but Lowes does (or did). They were closing them out at $47 each! I bought a half dozen at this price to keep for spares. I've taught my kids how to detail and do various paint & body work, which they do on the side to earn extra money for college.

Geesh... MOL is slow today!

I never had the opportunity to meet Brian but, I did meet several of their call center guys (including Jorge who responded first to the first thread)... Sounds to me as though they've changed their position since the last time I really looked into it...

I say that because, to my recollection, this exact issue was discussed in the three-day class. Pennington actually said that they were a company that was there because of their customers and that they'd be hard-pressed to deny warranty coverage to individuals that had the G-100. Naturally though, there will always be the occasional buffoon that 'abuses' the system and causes a stink. As such, it sounds as though they've taken a fairly firm line on how that works with Meg's directly.

To add, I think you're exactly right about ADS, though. I think if you had a problem with your G-100 - purchased from Rick - he'd jump through hoops (flaming hoops even) to make sure you were taken care of from a customer service standpoint.

Thanks for the links there qadsan! As a former moderator over on MOL, I still cruise the site frequently... I didn't catch those notations directly from someone within the company when I was 'cruising' though. Thanks again!

Lord all mighty qadsan.... When was Lowes closing them out?!!! I looked on their web-site and the 7336SP listed for $109.00, but only came with sanding accessories. eBay has a few ranging in all prices but given the shipping costs it equals out to roughly the same price. Dag nabit I wish I would have known about this. Although I've never heard about these DA's till I registered here. Everything I've read about the DA's is just short of a sliced bread. My arms get so tired anymore after hand polishing I can't lift em above my head the next day. Told the wife she was going to have to spoon feed me.

It's hit and miss on which Lowes is closing them out, but you've got to go into the individual stores or call them individually to find out which ones are closing them out and which ones aren't. This price will not be listed on their web site. The 7336SP is listed as a non-stock item at Lowes. When you call the store, give them the item number from the Lowes web site so they can look it up and tell them that you know this is a non-stock item. Then ask them if this item is currently listed as NPI (Non Productive Inventory) or find out when it will be listed as NPI. Tell them you've heard that other Lowes are closing them out at $47 after they're listed as NPI and ask them if they'll sell you one at that price. I've heard of people getting the display units (without the box or wrench or pad, etc) for as little as $25! It's a heck of a great price for this tool!

I don't have the ability to send PM's on here because I'm a new member, otherwise I'd scan you a copy of my receipt and send it to you via PM or email so you could take that to the store with you incase it helps.

OK, Thank you very much qadsan. I'll do just that. Heck for $47.00 I'll jump through hoops of fire in effort. Thankfully there are several Lowes locations in my area. I also appreciate your consideration in regards to your receipt, but since I'll be armed with your info., that should [at least] get me some answers.

Can you give me the store location where you made your purchase? Maybe they can look your/that particular store up in their system for better reference. Maybe that would be just as good as a receipt, no?
