repainting my hood

in an earlier thread we decided that my hood isnt fixable because of oxidation and the only way to fix it is to repaint it. you can see a pic in my gallery. my question is, will it match the rest of my body if i repainted just my hood? will it be too dark, too light, etc. and how much do you think it will run me?

A good body shop can match the colors almost exactly. It will be too close for the untrained eye to see. As far as cost ....

I can'y tell from the pic .. if your truck is silver metallic, then they will have to blend into the fenders to make everything match .. Silver Metallic is probably the hardest color to match. I would think around $600, if there is not a lot of prep work to do ..

go get an estimate from a reputable shop .. see what they say.. but I would not be suprised to hear them say they need to blend into your front fenders.

its a tan color, but the whole truck is not as dark as the original paint job when it was new. can they match the color of the whole truck now, or what it was originally painted?

They can repaint to what it is noe. I had to get a bumper replaced, and the color match is perfect. The bumper pad (which sits right atop the bumper) is original--the bumper new. Perfect. On Silver Clearcoat metallic. So yeah, $400-600 isn't too far off. My advoce would be to find a good place--no shady deals. G'luck.

EDIT: "...to what it is noe" should be "what it is now..." Sorry

Usually there are 3 shades of the same color, just because the truck is code ?????? doesn't mean that's exactly what comes out. Different manufacturers have the same code looking different. Tan color is an easy blend, but say a blue? Hard to match. It bieng Tan and the hood, you'll never tell, and many shops will tell you what they'll do in detail. Matching a fender to a door is the tricky stuff.

Craigs Automotive. I'll get a phone # and/or link sometime tomorrow. It's over near Scotty's Diner, if you know where that is...

It's on Beach Street. Couldn't find their phone # or website yet, but I'll keep looking.

also, I believe the official name is Craigs Automotive Repair.
