Whenever i would wash a car with my dad we used Tide laudry detergent. Is there actual car washing soaps that are worth the money? If so What?
or should i stick to my good old fashioned family car washing soap of Tide.

Tide is way too harsh to use on a vehicle surface. Besides stripping off any protection that you may have had on your truck, I can't imagine what it's doing to your clear coat.

Please purchase a dedicated soap meant for vehicles. I happen to like the Turtle Wax zip wax soap. Nice sudsing action, and gentle on the surfaces. Available at most retail outlets.

 

i seem to prefer Meguiars Gold class car wash shampoo and conditioner.

yeah, i got it i think for about 10 bucks for a gallon. Have used it 5-6 times and still have over 3/4 of it left

What you need to realize is that one should typically use the right type of tool for the job. You wouldn't walk into a place to install carpet with a leaf blower and, as such, you should use the correct tool (ie: product) for this job as well.

Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo is a great choice and will offer just about the best lubrication on the market for a shampoo in this price line.

Beyond the wax being totally stripped off using Tide (or any other dish or harsh soap), you're stripping your paint of vital lubrication items that will keep your paint from becoming brittle and cracking. I could go on and on about not using something like Tide... I'll stop here though.

Yes, it's worth it. We spend entirely too much money on our vehicles. If you care enough to wash it, you should care enough to use a quality product MEANT for washing it.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that it'd probably be better to *NOT* wash it rather than use Tide.

Ya my dad didnt teach me the ropes on this one, but now this newb can correct the errors of the family to right the way for future generations. Thanks for the input, try not to think less of me i point all blame on my dad.

 

You come to the right place for advice BUT.... This place is adictive and if you're not careful you'll wind up buying a PC, bunch of pads, Meg's 83, 80, 7, and 21. Oh, and a ton of Microfiber towels as well. Oh, yea get some Meg care wash for sure.

Man I thought for sure I was gonna get half way through this thread are see a post saying "ha ha you losers of course I was joking!" A $3 jug of bluelight special generic car wash fluid would be best if you're wondering if it is worth spending more than good old fashioned Tide????

It's like my fiance cdoing household cleaning with bleach and then wondering why "this doesn't look as colorful as it used to"
