layering wax

He guys, I'm detailing the truck today but I'm trying some of the steps that I have read on here but I have a question.

I usually use Mothers carnuba cleaner wax. But this time I'm using Meguires nxt and then going to follow up with the Mothers. My question is will the Mothers cleaner wax strip the nxt? I already have left over Mothers so if possible I want to use it.

sorry if this has been covered berfore but the search is not working for me today, it will come back with nothing ig i only put in wax?

Thanks

Not sure if it will really strip it, well not all of it, but it might take some off. I would never use a cleaner wax over anything else...

a cleaner wax should go on first.

Keep in mind that a cleaner wax is designed to clean. So, withthat in mind, it will clean a good majority of what is beneat it. NXT also has some very light cleaners in it but, it should definitely be your last step product.

I have been having very good results going over the top of Meguiars #21 (the professional version of NXT) with NXT Paste wax, but when I have tried the same thing going over NXT, I see very litttle, if any benefit.

NXT functions very well as an LSP.. and responds well to the NXT spray wax.

I would say, if you want to play around, and feel the need to top the NXT with something, give the Mother's Pure Carnuba Ultimate a try.

sometimes you have to resist the urge to use something just because you have it lying around ..

Thanks for the replies. I just finished using the nxt and very pleased with the results. As i noted before I was going to use the Mothers as a second coat since several people have mentioned doing this. From what i understand the 2nd coat of carnuba is to enhance the apperance....let me know if I'm wrong on this. As of tonight I don't plan on adding a carnuba since it looks pretty darn good now.

Also my truck never sees a garage since my fiancee's car and my trans am are the garage king and queen in this house. How long are you guys re-applying the nxt? Thanks

Huh?

If he wants two coats of NXT, why not use two coats of liquid? Remember, it's the same product -- different state of matter.

As for longevity of benefit with NXT, it's going to depend on your particular environmental conditions - from the sounds of it, those are harsh being that it's an outside-kept vehicle.

Look for the durability to fade in a couple of months -- adding the carnauba topper will probably get you a few more weeks. In the heat of summer, best case, probably around 3 months.

lol. not quite what I meant to say .. I guess I should proof read a little better .. as I had stated earlier in that post, I have seen little if any benefit from going over nxt with the nxt paste .. (as you stated, same product, different form)

I was trying to say if he wanted to top the NXT with a paste, to give the Mother's Carnuba a try .. just didn't come off my fingers that way ..

Are you polishing for luster or polishing to remove blemishes?

Removing blemishes -- it should go BEFORE the cleaner wax. Polishing for shine (no blemish removal) really shouldn't be followed by any type of cleaner wax or anything with a cleaning component.

A Sealer is another word that is tossed around quite frequently... think of it as a synthetic wax... that's what it is within the detailing realm.
