Griot's Garage DA Polisher....?
are you talking about this one?

I have used one a couple of times, and also have read several reviews of them on the meguiars forum .. general feeling is that it is a nice unit, but doesn't have the "guts" that the G100 (PC 7424) does.. it would work well on a car in great shape, but it has trouble with heavier work. (swirl removal)
I liked the handle, but overall, I prefer my PC. the griot's unit has a little tigher orbital action, is a little faster rpm, so it is a little easier to control. but it does not seem to cut quite as well as the PC does ..

Mind you, there's a difference between a rotary and a dual-action. For simple home, non-business use, I'd recommend the dual-action machine (7424 or G-100 (same machine)). A rotary is a MUCH more powerful tool and, in turn, can inflict an incremental greater amount of damage versus the DA when used incorrectly. The rotary, in my opinion, is not the way to start learning how to use a machine on your paint.
If the one shown above is the machine -- I've never personally held one but have heard similar things as what Gip posted. My personal opinion, stick with the tried and true.

Yep -- that's the one!
I purchased the G-100 about a month ago, and saw the Griot's unit come up as a "featured product" when I was over at Amazon (?) the other day. I had never seen the unit before and thought it looked different than the Meguiar's model.
Now I just wish I still had the wife's old '97 Sunfire -- it would have been the perfect vehicle to practice techniques on using the G-100 and the various compounds!

The new one from Griots which I have used a few times is just about the same. The new one features a fan in the head that keeps the head cooler, other than that it is heaver and not as user freindly as the PC which I have IMO.
I have the original Griot's and it is exactly the same as the Porter Cable unit. The only difference I can see is the Griot's sticker on the outside of the Porter cable box. The new one appears to be the same but with a fan and a paint job.
