Talking Only A true Ford Truck lover Whould be this stupid!!

S it was a bright and beautiful day in Indy why not Wax the rig. I used a cheapo orbital I got from Harbor Freight and used Meguiars cleaner wax, polish then Gold class shine. She looks freaking great.

I heard a tip on masking off all of the ploastic some where and it cost a little time initially but it worked out wonerdfully and I won't wax with out doing that next time.

Actually, it was 37ish cloudy and cold but man I needed to was. I may be in a pnemonia induced comma by weeks end but my truck is darn shinny!!!!

edit: My hands are still so cold I can't type.

Ideally, one should wait for 45+ to wax but, sometimes it doesn't always work out.

Reasoning behind that is that most companies utilize water or solvents (or combos of the two) to act as a 'delivery agent' for the wax itself. Often times, the water or solvent will have a hard time drying off or flashing off because of cold air's inability to capture much moisture and because of cold air's ability to keep flashing at a minimum...

In short, it's ideal to wait til it's a bit warmer but, like you apparently have, I have yielded superb results waxing above freezing.

WHERE ARE THE PICS!!

You weren't by yourself! I was out there too, and almost the same kinda temps, 37ish, and cloudy. Sounds like you didn't have warm water.. Frequent trips back inside the house or truck would have helped along with warm water would have helped those hands.

Pics, man, give up the pics..

Viola!

Hey RP, I have a cheapo 15 dollar harbor freight orbital I am using well I was going to get a full Ziebart detail done this spring. But after talking to a few people and the threads on here I am going ot buy the Porter Cable Orbital. Is it that much better than what I am using now? I understand it is variable speed but what would be the other benefits?

I also, wanted to give some one a shout out wither here or on television for a great idea. I used the blue masking tape to mask off all the plastic on the truck so I wouldn't get any was on it and it worked like a champ. It isn't near the work it sounds and you can just go crazy with the buffer with out worrying about the plastic. I HIGHLY recomend doing this to make the job just that much easier. (I think I saw it on "my CLassic Car".

Yes indeed. No worrying about how close you are to anything, how much time it's going to take to get it off-if at all, and you finish quicker. No brainer on this one.

I saw that you said about masking off black plastic to avoid having that nice white wax on there. Even if you dont want to spend time masking it off i find that if you go back with an eraser it takes the wax marks right off of there. Or you can mask it too I think the eraser might be a bit quicker though.

The Porter Cable Dual-Action Polisher (aka: PC, DA, Porter Cable) is a VERY user friendly tool that just about anyone can master... bottom line with this machine is that you MUST use common sense. As long as you ALWAYS wear the COMMON SENSE hat while you're using it/storing it, you're going to be fine.
