Pictures?

Any speculation on what might have caused it or what it is?

Cant get picture right now but looks almost like tiny rust spots. Brown spots all over the black trim. Happened on my uncles 04 ranger also. I've never put anything on the trim so i know i didnt do it myself. Should i try the back to black. Thats more for shine though right? I just want the spots to come off. Would alcohol be a good try?. Ive used car soap and elbow grease w/ no luck.

id try rubbing alcohol and one of those plastic scrubbers thats like steel wool. Mine are turning grey and ive got wax arcs in mine, so im gonna be trying rubbing alcohol in the morning.
But have the hose on stand by and dont let the rubbing alcohol on the paint for too long.

On my old Ranger, I simply went to the dealer and bought new window trim strips when the old ones started to bubble up with rust under the rubber. You're talking about the rubber strip along the bottom of the front door window opening, right?

Those plastic scrubber pads will scratch rubber and even chrome. I ruined a set of auxiliary lights once by using a scrubby pad on them. The scratches rusted out in less than a year.

It's not rust. It's just getting pitted. My 99 Ranger was like that. I don't there's really anything you can do about it short of replacing the pieces. I tried one of those scrubby pads and it just scratched the hell out it.

I've got them on my truck as well, on the moulding outside that surrounds the window openings. I haven't figured out what caused them, but I've seen 'em on a lot of vehicles at work and on my own.

Yeah i looked again today and they seem more gray than brown. Do you think the dealership would cover the parts or would i just be wasting my time?

I have no idea what that means. Yes, it's a dealer-only part so you must go to the dealership. Unless the defect is severe and your truck is younger than 12 months/12K miles, you probably won't get it under warranty.

Have you tried wiping some vinyl/rubber dressing over it?

The spots you are seeing are probably mildew spots. Go to a marine store and buy a mildew cleaner and I bet that will take it off.
