Quick detail after wash???
Quick detail after wash???
Is there any point in using Meguiar's Quick Detailer right after washing the truck?
I notice that I get a really good shine with QD even after a wash. But I thought the real purpose of QD is to remove dirt, etc. between washes?

Some the hard-core fruitcakes do a QD after a wash for that extra little luster it gives you. I'm guilty of said practice. Although, now I don't it that often as I use Mothers FX spray wax after it's weekly wash, and the Mothers QD as needed.
Scrap the Meg's QD though, it's not that great.

Absolutely. Using QD after a wash is a great step to ensure that you removed all of the spots that may have been left behind by any stray water droplets. Further, it's easier to remove those droplet's mineral deposits if they're fresh rather than letting them cook and etch into your paint.
Secondly, you mention that it's 'purpose' is to remove 'dirt, etc. between washes...'.
I think I see what you're saying here but, I wouldn't use the word 'dirt'. QD products aren't meant to remove dirt but more light smudges and very light dust. Using a QD product to 'wash your truck' could spell disaster from a scratching/swirling standpoint that will require copius amounts of time to remove the damage that you may have introduced.
My rule of thumb is that if I hesitate two tenths of a second on if I should QD versus washing the truck... then I should wash the truck... Err on the cautious side... washing provides MUCH more lubrication across the painted surface than does a QD spray.
Also, I disagree 110% with Meg's QD not being that great (burgandy bottle -- which is the BEST spray bottle for a mist out there by the way). In fact, it's still one of my preferred brands on the QD market (and there are a BUNCH of them). I don't, however, care for Meguiar's NXT Detailer...
QD sprays are an important tool in detailing in my opinion but, only if they're used correctly...

Thanks for the responses guys.
I'll guess I'll add this to my weekly washing regimen. You might have noticed from my other posts, we have well water which leaves horrible water spots. I dry immediately with the Big Blue II towel, but still get some spots. Maybe using QD right after drying will help out with this as RP stated.

Use the QD as you are drying the vehicle. After you have washed your vehicle, do a slow flood rinse to minimize the standing water. Then, mist on a little QD, and blot and dry the area with your WW towels. Move the towels SLOWLY to dry. Give them a chance to absorb the moisture.
Using the QD during the drying process will add some lubrication and additional light cleaning ability.

I guess I'll need to start buying QD by the gallon somewhere. With two F150's to wash every weekend, I'll go through those little spray bottles quickly.

Does the leaf blower REALLY work out for you guys? I never even thought about using it until I started reading this forum.
I prefer to use my air compressor but you have to be careful with air compressors. Some compressors will start blowing oil if you work them too hard.
You're prolly better off with a leaf blower.
