then blast it dry with the leaf blower
then mist it down with vinylex (water based) for a nice brand spankin new sheen to everything

Where can you get Vinylex from?

Pep Boys has it on the shelf. If you don't have access to them, you're probably going to have to resort to ordering online from one of the many reputable online retailers.
For this product, I'd highly recommend contacting premiumautocare.com (I believe they still carry it).

If you can't find the Vinylex, look for any good "water based" protectant in a good spray bottle that will throw a fine mist.
I use Poorboy's Natural Look in an old Meguiar's QD bottle... works great!

i always just covered up the intake filter (AF1) and the alternator and that was it. the fusebox closes up pretty tight, so as long as you arent blasting water anywhere it should be fine. still doesnt hurt to cover it though.
i always just wash mine with a light sprinke of water. defiantely not a high pressure blast.
those little bags with the elastic around the edge made for like going over salad bowls or food dishes real quick work great for covering up the alternator...the little elastic band catches and stays in place nicely on the alternator bolts to cover it up pretty safe from the water
havent done mine in forever though, just been doing alot of wiping down, since i've got so much to mask off now with the intake, alternator, fuses, neon tubes, relays for the Efan, billet parts, etc. etc. its a big PITA now :hh:

When you're in the engine compartment, any host of things can go wrong. Preventative measures should ALWAYS be taken... There are simply too many little items in there that can cause MAJOR problems with the addition and/or introduction of a couple of drops of water.
For this reason, I don't detail engine compartments for customers... simply too much risk involved. Being a 'one man shop' and doing it as a sideline, it's not worth it to me to make $20 extra bucks...

if you use straight concentrate SG it will turn hoses and stuff a whitish color
dilute it 25% SG and 75% water and you'll be fine and still have plenty of cleaning action with the diluted SG
then mist it down with vinylex and be lookin like new

Thanks again for your help.................
I use the Black Magic engine cleaner. Spray on and rinse off. They claim no covering up is needed. I tried it, and it works well. Of course I was careful not to douse the electrical areas and the air filter anyway. I like it a lot and have used it on my Honda Accord and Jeeps.
