As Rockpick has shown in his test posts, with NXT wax and some others, there is a definite color change, shifting to the darker colors.

The wax makers claim this, but who listens to manufacturer claims?

Well, as I posted the other day, I have clayed and NXT waxed (three coats) my Silver STX. I love the way it looks, and the silky feel of the finish is well worth the effort.

Today was the first time I was able to park next to a Silver non-NXT waxed STX for comparison.

Did not have a camera with me, which is a shame.

The difference in color from the NXT, the difference in finish, from the claying was striking.

The other truck was a 04 Supercab, with about 6000 miles on it. My truck is a Regular cab with about 5500 miles on it. Both trucks have been garaged, and his truck was about two months newer than mine.

The guy had to see the paint code in my door before he conceded they were the same color.

What a difference. The NXT makes my truck look almost Gray. A good deep Gray.

He was not a computer user, or I would have talked him into joining this forum.

After seeing the great difference, I wish I could 'treat' a Red or Maroon F-150. I bet the results would be spectacular.

Wow, that's cool! I wonder if anyone's ever been unhappy with that deep gloss color 'transformation'?

 

Glad that worked out for you! It's been my experience that the majority of good products (especially the carnauba based products - (NXT is not carnauba)) will add depth and darken the paint. It is pretty spectacular how it works...

It seems as if NXT is a great wax, but what if I don't want my new truck paint color to get darker, what should I use for my wax.
Also, if you wax with NXT and your paint darkens, whats happens when the wax wears off? Does the paint color lighten again? Just wondering because I want to give my new truck it's first wax job. Thanks for any insights.

 

Well since I have just over 1300 miles on mine and have QD'd it after every wash I can't say if it will lighten. I do know that its time for another wash and wax with NXT soon. 2 months old as of yesterday and its pretty dirty but we have rain in the forecast for this weekend so it will be the first part of next week.

 

Dark may not state it completely. It makes the color 'deeper'. I have done a dark green jeep, a bright red tracker, and my silver F-150. all are closer to a 'true' color. It's like the unwaxed truck is not finished yet, hard to explain.

I don't think anyone would be displeased.

On all three I have done, there is no question that it was a plus. I would like to do white and deep red, just for fun, but I don't know anyone with either of those colors.
Try it, who knows, you might like it.

I imagine it will fade with time, as the dirt and grim build up over the paint. Everything else does.

I wish I hadn't wasted my time waxing my truck right after I first got it, with Carnuba paste wax. I should have clayed it, and used the NXT, or something like Zanno.

The claying made a huge, huge difference. My paint was sorta smooth when I bought the truck, and a little smoother after the carnuba wax. Now it's slick, like a high quality paint job.

You notice it when you touch the body, slick, satin finish.

After learning this process, I will be claying everything I buy from now on.
