Brown scum on tips
Brown scum on tips
OK, so I have one more question for all of you running exaust tips out there..... what is the eaisest way to get all the brown off the edge of the tips. I have the rounded off edges, so it seems to build up more. I have literally sat back there ans scrubbed with chrome polish to no avail.
Does anyone know of a trick to this stuff?
THANK YOU!

I may not be the best on this one, but I had SS tips on my Mustang that had the brown stuff. I used Never Dull and a little elbow grease and it seemed to work pretty well. Tips looked good after that too.
I use MAAS on them. Everyplace carries this stuff ( Walmart, Wallgreens, I think Napa, etc ).
It is in a blue box, and is kind of a general cleaner for metals, similar to SemiChrone in consistancy and cleaning ability.
After washing the truck, I use an old sock, and give the pipes a quick polish with it. Use the sock on the pipe, like a shoe shine rag. First time might take some time, but after that it is a 2 min thing per pipe, to keep them clean. Put it on, let it haze up, and polish off.
Quicker and easier then Never Dull in my book.
Good luck.

No flame at all, I still have Never Dull, and use it on a few things. More so the right tool ( cleaner ) for the right job.
Here are a few picks in stages. I just cleaned my pipes, stopping to take pics along the way. The longest part was returning 3 work emails, and uploading the pictures

MAAS works better then SemiChrome, and is cheaper. I stopped using Mother's Mag and AL polish all together when I found this stuff.
Again Never Dull has it's places, like polishing the bumpers, it is a easier method.
The finished picture, you can see the flash really does a number on the pipes, they almost look white from the flash.

You said that you rounded the tips, if you filed them or ground them what you are going to see is rust. But you can use 0000 steel wool and windex. it cleans great and wont scratch the chrome. Works great on the pits in and the rust the forms on chrome bumpers.

He's probably talking about rolled, or "pencil" tips. Those can be a pain, especially the chrome steel ones. Stainless is the stuff for exhaust tips, IMO. I've tried MAAS, and it's a great product. Another product that has about the same results is Wenol. You can find it at most antique stores, and car shows. I have yet to see it anywhere else. Runs about $10 to $12 a tube, but a little of it goes a long way. It will make bare aluminum look like chrome with enough rags and elbow grease.,,,,98
