damn water spots!!

wondering if any of you experts (rockpick) know how to get water spots off of chrome bumpers! apparently, the inlaws drove the wife's expy and got it wet near a sprinkler and let it sit for a week or two! so now these water spots are like nuclear waste marks on the bumper. i put some metal polish designed for water spots, and no luck! so i am asking for help gents! any suggestions? thanks all, willie

Do you all have secondary water systems out there for irrigation? If so, that water may or may not be treated as well as a potable water supply and thus, it may be 'harder' or generally dirtier water...

Try clay.

Rockpick, get this, i think it was proposed a while back to go from 'toilet to tap' then it went to 'showers to flowers'! so from what i understand, your saying the clay bar will do the trick? i rubbed my hand over the spots and i could deffinitly feel the water deposits. i will give it a try, thanks, willie

If you can feel them on the surface, my hunch is that clay will remove them.

Othewise, you may be feeling the 'etched remains' of what acidic water did to your chrome.

Good luck!

Read on the net on a detailing site about removing water spots using a 50/50 water/vinegar solution. Tried it yesterday on my Explorer and believe it or not it worked, on the paint that is. But it does remove the wax so you have to apply wax after treating with the solution. The site said you could use it on chrome and the windows, it dissolves the minerals the water leaves behind...WORKED FOR ME!!

the Jet Ski (dark dark green) at the lake on 100* day's does not do good for waterspots. Gonna have to clean them up.

That's certainly a trick that has been used and is tried and true. I prefer to go with something that is less chemically aggressive but, it's a very viable option.
