Angry Underbody looks like h...

I'm the second owner of my 98 F250, and I'm getting sick of the appearance of the underbody. Being a 4x4, the frame rails are very visible at the front wheel wells. The rails, along with the rest of the underbody has a good deal of surface rust and peeling undercoat.

Can someone suggest how much it would cost to get the underbody coated with something, and what that "something" should be?

I'm assuming I'll have to get the old, flaky coating off first, wire brushes?

Before I got my current truck I had several old ones. When I wanted them to look nice I would go to the auto parts store and get some spray cans of rubberized undercoating. If you put a fresh coat on it every now and then it doesn't look to bad. It is definatly not a show quality. Plus it is kind of messy but it was worth the $5 to me.

Just a suggestion,
Mike

my 4x4 was rusty and faded underneath. I got off a bunch of rust and buffed some with scotch brite pad then spray painted everything. Looks great, not generic at all, seriously. Took about 3-4 cans off good paint and alot of black boogers.

KLW - thats what I did also. Got off all the surface rust, cleaned it up, sprayed rust inhibitor on it, then black spray paint. Worked like a charm.

The only reason I am hesitant to do that is that when it comes time to sell the truck is someone going to think you are trying to cover something up?

Use a flat black paint and get as much rust and crud off as possible. It will clean up nice and show that you take care of the truck.
