speedometer not working
speedometer not working
Hello all--on a recent trip my speedometer started behaving eratically. When I came to a stop it read sixty or whatever and when I was driving it might have read any speed. The odometer works fine but I think the needle may be loose on the shaft. Has anyone else had this problem and what can I do about it??
The problem is at the instrument cluster. If the speed sensor were faulty, your truck wouldn't be shifting properly.
You'll probably want to pull the dash apart and make sure that the connections are secure and not corroded. Unless you've removed the needle in the past, that shouldn't be the problem. Just in case though, you can unplug and clean the terminals on the speed sensor. It's located on the passenger side of the transmission extension housing.

Thanks, I'll give those two things a try, and, by the way, I'm already fifty-nine years old so what does it matter if I'm doing sixty?

An older guy (he is in his eighties) told me once that , if you keep yourself in shape and use your head then you get better as you get older (for most things)---but that all you had to do was survive. I suppose this would include not getting out of the old truck at speed...

You know there probably ain''t ten people out of the whole 50,000+ that could make that come back.

RP, what I meant was there were only ten people who were 59 years old.
He don't need me to tell him how sharp he is but. his age-mph connection was pretty quick.
I just hope I can still type when I'm 59.
(Actually I hope I can still see the screen, typing would be a bonus)

Actually, I went through the birthday database and it appears that there are only 8 people that are 59...
Oops I forgot to say that I agree with you about the speed sensor because , if I come to a stop and take it out of gear the needle drops--looks like I'll be crawling my wrinkly butt under there real soon.
