Paint looks like an Orange Peel..

I've got a 2002 Super Crew, and the paint looks horrible. You would figure a new car/truck would be looking like glass.. My black paint looks very orange peely.. Does anyone else have this problem??

Yep,

Most of them have the orange peel........ mine included. Normally, a good wax job brings out the orange peel. About the only way to remove it is color-sanding, and that's no small chore.

Yep, orange peel is bad on new vehicles and the paint is so thin you really don't want to colorsand it down.

It's got to do with the new high solid, low solvent paints being used as well as the baking process.

You could try that, but in all honesty I don’t thing they will do anything since it is basically normal with most automobiles painted these days.

I would imagine the cost would be high to have it done, at least a good chuck of money for the dealer to absorb. They may come back and tell you “well it was there when you bought it, you seen it, etc etc.”

Even with a good wetsand and polish, you'll still be able to see much of the peel.

I don't think that there's much way around it...

Numerous vehicles out there have it now and we have the federal government to blame...

The Clean Air Act was directed, primarily, at reducing VOC emissions and, more specifically, Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPS).

The paint manufacturers had to scramble to come up with compliant mixes and thus, 'other solvents' are used more frequently.

They are a good agency but, they have entirely too much power. Trust me, I'm dealing with them on a daily basis in my line of work as an environmental geologist working for an environmental consulting firm.

They mean well but have too much power...

So being an environmental geologist that would mean you would know all the safe places in the woods to take a dump, if the occasion arose?

Only if the trees are falling in the right position in accordance with the alignment of the moon and left center solar system on the 4th day of June with a blue sky and a paved road near by.
