First Truck - Teen Buying His First Truck
I will level with you guys from the start. I'm 16 and have a part time job saving for a truck and once i get one, to pay insurance and gas. I have about $1800 saved so far and am still saving. i want to get an f150 but i won't rule out other models. Do you have any suggestions for reliable years of trucks, maintenance, things to look for when inspecting the truck, tips to reduce insurance, etc? any advice or help appreciated. THANKS.
P.S. dont even think about suggesting dodge's, chevy's, nissan's, etc. My whole family is Ford and so am I

Hey, Im 16 too have got an 06 F150 for 10 thou, Iv been saving alot of money for gas, upgrades, etc. Im not sure where to buy it, but as for the insurance rates im getting 60% off my insurance, somethings you can do is have a 3.0 or higher gpa i think, and the drivers ed u take, and talk to the insurance agent, u can get a safe drivers course thats real easy and you save like 20%

id say my number 1 tip is dont become attached to a truck when looking. Dont care one way or another if you get it. that way whoever youre buying it from doesnt screw you over because you want the truck that badly. I ended up walking away from a truck because the dealer wouldnt drop their price another $500. no skin off my back. theyre the ones with the truck that needs to get sold and there are thousands of others out there that will make a deal. The truck i did end up buying, walked in and they asked something like $16k and i said no way $10k is my budget. walked out. got about 3 miles down the road, got a call to come back in and talk numbers. ended up buying the truck for $11k inc tt&l.

I was 17 when i bought mine... i worked my *** off. Wrote a check for 11k and pretty much stole my truck. Loaded xlt ext cab with the 3V 5.4 mint with 36k on the ticker. Keep saving. I'd say try to find a 4.6 for reliability to be honest. The 5.4's have their share of issues and the maintenance can get expensive.
