Major Line X Problem

I bought my truck 4.5 months ago and I had Line X put a bedliner in it.

Yesterday I noticed a bubble in it and it peeled right up. From what I've read about bedliners, you have to prep the bed very well for it to stick. My bed looks like it was prepped with a toothbrush. It is hardly roughed up at all. I don't haul anything in this truck and have a 1/2" rubber stall mat in the bed to protect the actual liner if I do have something back there. I'm very picky about my truck and will not mistreat it.

I called the actual Line X corporation rather than the installer. I think my installer was lazy and skimped on prep and bedliner. Bedliner is 1/16 of an inch thick. Line X says to take it to the installer for him to peel the liner out and install it properly under warranty. I say that he is incompetent and will be disgruntle. I'm worried that when he takes the old liner out that he will scratch up around the tailgate, bedrails, etc. that the new liner will not cover without looking stupid. Line X said it will come right out, but I don't think it will without harming my truck.

The part that peeled up was on factory fresh smooth paint, not prepped.

What do you guys think? What would you do?

I would take it back right away. You paid for it so make sure you get what you want. I would tell the Line X dealer your concerns and give him a chance to make it right.

Anyone think the bed prep is a joke and also the thickness of the liner?

Yes the prep is a joke! I would take it back without question particularly if line X said to do so. The prep is a pain in the *** I did a duplicolor DIY bed liner in my truck and will not ever do it again putting the liner in itself is easy yes whoever installed it took the easy lazy way out.

That's what I'm worried about. I don't see how they can peel up the old without scratching some of the areas that will not be covered by the new liner and I'm worried the guy will be disgruntled and have an attitude since I called him out to the Line X corporation for being a joke of an installer.

I think 1/16th of an inch thick is a freaking joke.

I think it is funny how this Line X video shows the entire bed sanded when my installer did not do this and it is funny how they advertise it being thick up to 1/4".

Would it be possible to have a different installer do the work at the place you took it?

There is a member here that is an excellent and very reputable LineX dealer. Send him, TruckGasm, a PM and see what he suggests you do.

I told the Line X rep that I didn't not what the incompetent shop to try to fix my truck. He said that warranty has to take place at the original shop. I think that is crap. If he can't do it right the first time then why will he the second time? I feel like I will have to sit there to babysit him when he is the "professional".

I will do that. Thank you. I want to make sure everyone knows that I am not saying all Line X people are bad, just this one shop on my specific truck. It seems like he was taking the cheap easy way out.

Unfortunately good employees are hard to find. I don't think you can call the shop incompetent yet since you have not talked to them and given them a chance to fix it. I worked at a detail and accessory shop when I was a younger man and I can tell you that when they are busy some work gets through that has not been OK'd by the boss. My first call would have been to the installer myself then if the work was not repaired to my satisfaction my next call would be to Line X corp and demanding they send me to another location for a proper job.

I'll be happy to offer some advice. First, I need to ask you a question via a private message.

Here's another picture around the B&W ball showing how the Line X is not stuck to the metal. Great place for water to seep in and rust out the bed. That's probably a 4" blade on my knife. I think that the liner did not stick because of a poor prep job.

I'd stay in contact with Linex tell them you do not trust the original installer and take it else where. They aregonna have to strip that whole bed and prep it RIGHT, then respray. At the cost of a linex job I would have a case of the a$$ till its fixed and fixed right

They won't let you take it elsewhere. Might as well give up on that.
