I'm watching this thread closely. I was considering Line X for my next truck instead of a drop-in but what I'll do will depend a lot on how this gets handled. I certainly wouldn't take my expensive truck back to a vendor who did such a poor job the first time out.

There is more going on here than just the lack of prep. Look closely at the photos and see how unevenly the stuff was sprayed on, especially in the last photo; that looks glopped on. In other areas, it looks a bit thin.

 

Make sure your truck is good and clean, then take photos of all the areas that you are worried might get damaged in the re-do. Take it back to the Original Line-X dealer and explain your concerns about damage and what you have documented. IF the truck comes back with any issues, you will have a slam dunk case. My Line-X is 8 years old and has lived a hard life without any signs of damage.

 

Unfortunitely even in small claims court you have to give the original shop a chance to repair it...now with that said, it may very well be that is the only two spots that were not propertly sanded...another possibility is that although they may have cleaned the bed, a contaminent was caught by the sand paper & depositied on those spots as well. I would give the guy a chance.

You got a bum install, plain and simple. I had my Line-X installed the same wee I bought my truck, and talked with the manager in advance. Told him I was a licensed bodyman, and wanted to see the prep work before it was sprayed. He had no problem with that. I pulled the plastic bed rails, rubber plugs in the end of the box, and all the box bolts in their parking lot. The prep job was aggressive. Looked like they did it with a wire wheel on a 7" dewalt grinder, but there was no bare metal showing, and ZERO shiny spots.

It is stuck, and there is no possibility of removing it. I've hauled all sorts of dirt and gravel, with shovels, rakes and brooms in there digging away at the materials.

Meet with the manager, and tell him you want to see the prep job the second time around, BEFORE they spray it. He should have no problem with that, if he has nothing to hide.

 

It all depends on the installer. Talk to him, maybe it was one of his employees, or like others have said, contaminate in the surface prep technique. LineX is going to try to make the installer responsible for the respray anyways. They just sell the marketing, the installer actually does the work. Most companies would value a second chance to get it right though. Talk to him and see what he says.

There is a brief delay due to the unavailability of certain key persons. When they are available again which will probably be next week, then I expect that the issues will be addressed.

 

The key is the prep-work. Hopefully the dealer gets it right. I had a 2002 Tacoma truck that I had sprayed with line-x. It has seen it all. Rocks, bricks concrete blocks, dirt, sand, pipes, beer bottles...I mean glass bottles, etc. I sold it to a friend. To this day, except for the fading, it still holding up! The guys that did my job. used a grinder, then vac'd, and then cleaned it up with alcohol soaked rags. I will get Line-x in my new trucks as well. I did ask the original guys if they can spray the bed as thick as possible because I haul all these rough items for work at that time.

I was undecided on the spray in liner from the factory, in the end I ordered the truck with it, I'm told line-x has contract with Ford and its installed at the factory... so it woulf be a dealer warranty issue

Not exactly. On June 26, 2012, LINE-X bought a controlling interest the company that installs the "factory" bedliner for Ford and Dodge. Right now, the product is not LINE-X, but use your imagination and you can figure out what's probably coming.

The factory bedliner is not the best deal. It's about half the thickness and only has a 3 yr/36K warranty.
