Hard folding tonneau advice

My extang tonneau cover is starting to crack after 7 years so I was thinking with replacing it with a hard folding one. Would like some opinions from those that have them. I would also like to know how they lock down. Wife wants me to get a shell but I really dont know how long I'll be keeping the truck and $1200+ is a bit much although a decent hard folding cover is almost $800.
Thanks

I've got an Extang Encore on my truck. Love it. Low profile, strong as hell, and the fact that you can open the panel by the cab to get to stuff in that part of the bed, that is awesome.

They also have their original hard cover, the Solid Fold, sits up a touch higher than the Encore, and costs less, but is still a damn good cover.

I also have an Extang Encore on my truck too. I absolutely love it and I am extremely happy with their customer service. The panel closest to the cab, out of the box, had a bent over aluminum trim lip where it looked to have been dropped. Also, about a week after owning the cover, the cables on the front lock mechanism came off and I was unable to open the cab panel. I had to send my son in there to pull the cables manually...LOL. Well, I called Extang and talked to a rep that asked for pictures and copy of my receipt. I immediately emailed both to him and he called back and gave the choice of receiving a whole new tonno or just a new cab panel from them free of charge. Most people would have opted for a whole new tonno, but the rest of my tonno is in perfect condition, so I did the right thing and only asked for them to send me a new cab panel. He sent out a new cab panel that day. It is easy to replace, plus I am an auto tech so I have the mechical ability to do the replacement of the panel.
From that day forward, I swore that their quality and especially their customer service and warranty made me an Extang customer forever. Customer service and a company that stands behind their product 110% goes a long way in my book, in this day and age.

Cheers!

I got my Extang Encore about 3 weeks ago for $900 and we finally got rain in Chicago after our drought. I park on a very slight slope at work and in my driveway. The Encore has drain tubes in the front of the bed, but not in the back. I recently found out that both the front key latch and especially the rails leaked.

Do any of your Extang Encores leak like mine; particularly to the point that the inside channels fill up and overflow near the tailgate? I heard no tonneau is water tight, but for $900 I'm already disappointed.

Thanks!

I get a little bit of leakage on my Encore when the truck is parked at home and it rains. I park with the front of the truck pointed slight up the incline of my driveway, so the water can't all get to the drain tubes in the front.

I also get a slight bit of leakage at the middle hinge when I take it to the car wash and the high pressure water hits it. Other than that, it's great.

I talked to one of the guys at Extang, and he told me that if you can get a hold of one of the front seals from their Trifecta cover, and put it on the front where the Encore directions have you putting the foam strip, it seals even better. He even showed it to me on his truck. I am yet to do this, but definitely plan on it. Not sure how much cost would be to get that seal though.

i have a ex-tang solid fold that i love a lot and have had 0 problems with it. now one year after i bought it i have seen the weather stripping is getting worn . but it still keeps out water and still looks good. love the easy off with out help love the safety i have to leave tools in there and know its going to be there when i come out. my only regret is i wish i could paint it to match but i would be afraid it will scratch when it gets folded or stored in my garage!

Having seen the Peragon first hand, I'd seriously give it some consideration when looking around for something of this flavor. The design is great... installation is cake... and it works well. Stay tuned for more...

I got the Peragon cover. It is leak free and works the best that I have used. The only thing I think is better is the service you get from Peragon.
Good luck in your quest Ed
