When you say roof top, do you mean it was made for the roof?

red,
Yeah, typically found on expeditionary vehicles like Land Rovers, and Land Cruisers.
This type of tent is commonly referred to as roof top tents or expeditionary tents.

It's cool but I don't get it Is it suppose to sit like that on the bed and what exactly is it suppose to do? Camping , ice fishing, or what?

For some reason that tent looks like it would be better inside the bed if you rotated it 90 degrees with the entrance off the Tailgate and those 2 small window things(currently facing the back of the cab and the tailgate).

I saw this type at Cabelas on an F150 it look pretty slick. The air mattress was contoured to fit around wheel wells.

They also had this type which I thought was for cars/suvs not pickups, but I guess it works on both..

But remember, everything has to come out of the bed.

08stx4x4,
The rear of my bed cover opens as the tent is placed in the current position. The cover "butterflyies", two doors front and back. Additionally, I'll be able to pull large items out of the cargo area, without the ladder being in the way.
Lastly, I want to be able to place the tent on the roof of the truck. (Similiar to scott6809 shows in the second picture.) I will use the same mounting system used to attach to the bed cover. When mounted on the roof, I will be able to place the ATV on the cover, as it is designed. Then the RTT will be deployable, in the orientation pictured, with the ATV on the cover.

A closed or stowed picture will be forthcoming.

Good question:
1. Easy set up & take down. About 5 mins each, up & down.
2. It has a foam mattress.
3. Its off the ground, this has a number of advantages.
a. uneven ground, b. ground water & rain, c. animals, d. catch the breeze
4. Its cool & I like it.

I like all of those...hmmm...I go camping in cape cod in a pine forest every year and I have most of those problems lol....I'll have to look into one because they are pretty neat, a creative use of space!
