Bed Caps (Factory) Issue

I have a 2005 F150 supercrew and I'm thinking bout taking the bed caps off to have them sprayed with bedliner material because they have faded out bad. I really don't want to replace them if they're just gonna fade again. Has anyone had their caps sprayed? and What is involved in taking these caps off? Thanks, Rick

Have you tried using mothers back to black on them. It works wonders.

Theres a product called "Forever Black" that i used on my bed caps and window trim, it's a dye not an oil so you need to mask with painters tape on the areas you don't want dyed. It worked great on my truck!

you can get it on ebay, it worked great for me and has held up thru rain and wash, theres also another dye treatment called "Black Wow" that others here like and it works the same way....

My '04 is so oxidized/faded. I used steel wool to take off the heavy stuff and it seems to get to the color it should be. The mothers back to black didn't do squat for me after like 2 days.

Did the liner stick ok to the plastic? I remember someone saying that was an issue.

I used Krylon Fusion on mine. Worked great. Black Satin then U/V protection clear over the top. Nine months later they still look great. To remove them just pull up sharply and they pop right off. For prep I washed them w/ soap and water then an amonia based window cleaner. Let them dry then sprayed them. Had no problems with adhesion. They look great still.

The Herculiner adhered really well. I was afraid it wasn't going to. I sanded the caps with 150 grain sandpaper and then wiped down real well with a damp cloth. I'll put it this way, that stuff got on my hands and didn't come off for about 3 days...Its pretty strong stuff. I can't speak on its durability yet but i have a good feeling its gonna last. I'll try to put up some pictures this afternoon.
