Fold a cover or Bakflip?

I am more concerned with the security of both of these covers. Any experiences with either would be appreciated. How difficult to get into the truck bed?

The Fold-a-Cover is the most secure of the two and overall a much, much better cover. The Bakflip is a great design with the full opening and the way it opens but the plastic isn't as durable as the aluminum and when you have it fully open it rest against the cab/window of the truck.

What he says may be true - I've no experience with the Fold A Cover but I've had a Bakflip G2 on my truck for about 15 months now without a moment of trouble or worry. I've no doubt aluminum is stronger than plastic but it would take a hell of a blow or cutting tool to get thru the plastic. And yes, it does rest against the cab window when fully folded, but it is supplied with rubber gaskets (can't think of a better word) that mount on the backside and actually rest against the window. I've carried a golf cart from LA to SC and back with the G2 folded against the cab and not a mark on it. Plus it can be removed in just a couple of minutes with two simple wing nuts.

With the locking tailgate it is completely secure. I've even recently added the Roush spoiler to my tailgate and was pleasantly surprised to see how the G2 mated right up to it.

Very happy with my Bakflip!

I'll vouch for the strength of the Fold A Cover.

Stupid move of the year for me. I usually pull one or two of these off a year. I was picking my son up from school when he had his full length cast on so he wouldn't have to ride the bus. I also have to pick my twin girls up 1/2 hour later. My wife gets off later. than me so I'm the taxi. Anyway after picking my son up I park in the middle of the garage instead of parking on my side. I got something out of the backseat (screw) and go inside. So it comes time to pick up the girls. I go to leave, backing out of the garage when all the sudden WHAM! WTF the garage door just fell onto the bed on my truck. I thought I hit the button to close it by accident or something but no way should it have come down with such force. Turns out when I got into the backseat earlier I shut the end of the rope that disconnects the arm on the garage door in my truck door. When I started to back up out of the garage it released the door and slammed down onto the Fold A Cover.

Sorry for the long story but umm yeah they're pretty strong.

My vote: FoldACover G4 (not the LS).

With the Fold-A-Cover a locking tailgate isn't needed they come with a plate that mounts to the the tailgate and there is a tab on the cover that prevents it from opening.

BakFlip is available in ALL ALUMINUM. It's called the BakFlip HD and it is an OE product for Ford F150. Check it out and you'll see for yourself!

Bakflip does not have a history of being a quality product. We will see how the HD holds up. Buyer beware though.

Ordered a BakFlip G2 last Christmas but was sent the HD(aluminum)version instead. I have to say this is a very high quality cover in fit, finish and weather resistance. The panels are a little on the heavy side but feels really secure. I really like the shiny finish and completely flush fit.

I've got two Fold-a-Cover G4 Elites, one on my 05 and on the 08. I installed the one on my 05 with my stepdad when I went to visit. We didn't know anything about how to turn it and were very concerned with making sure the lines were even etc...needless to say we probably spent more time then we should have. Took the better part of the day put when I had one installed on the 08 it took about two hours. Good instructions and I take of the Fold-a-cover stickers for an even cleaner look.

Yes they are endorsed by Ford as an OE type cover but until Ford sells them as a Ford product they are still aftermarket and not OE. Heck even on BakFlips site they only say it is an oe part for one of the big 3 they don't even say which one.

I have and like the Bakflip. I like the flush look of the Bakflip and its ability to give full access to the bed. It has worked perfect for me and the install was very easy.
