Line-X $$$ and ???

Just got a new 08 F150 Screw and have been researching bedliners. Looks like Line-X is the way to go. Stopped by the only dealer in the area yesterday (about an hour away) to see how much and what his answers were to a couple questions. Got the following prices which I thought were a bit high from what I've been reading here.

Line-X black $550 with Xtra $600
Line-X colored $750 with Xtra $800

Also said it takes 1 1/2 - 2 days. They prep and spray the first day and let it dry. Clean it up the second day. Maybe they just want to make sure someone doesn't drop a load of rock on it before it's completely cured.

Question I still have is how does it normally get applied near the bedrails? What I mean is, is the area under the bedrails where all the tab holes are taped off and the Line-X brought up to the top of the sidewall. Is the underside of the bedrail coated? If you did that, wouldn't that mean removing the bedrails (otherwise the tabs would be Line-X'd in place) and would the tabs even still fit with the extra thickness of the Line-X in the way?

Other question is how do the bedbolts / tailgate screws hold up to just being covered in Xtra? I like the look of that Tundra Truckgasm did, but isn't Xtra meant to be applied over the Line-X and mechanically / chemically bond with it? How well does the bond of just Xtra hold up on the bolts?

Hi there... those prices do seem high.

I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the dealer here just quoted me 550.00 for heavy duty with Xtra in black.

I was told they only need my truck for a few hours because the Line-x spray compound bonds instantly to the bed. (Even the Line-X website says that).

Basically I could get my truck back as soon as it was done, but they recommend not putting anything in the back for about 1 - 2 days (Just in case)

Hope this helps, sorry I can't help with the other questions, I just dont know the answers.

Wow, price and turn around time is way off. What dealer did you talk to?

Answer to question #1: The plastic factory bed rail is not taken off, it's masked off with tape. LINE-X is applied as far up the side of the bed as possible. The underside of the rail may have some LINE-X on it but generally speaking there's very little on that horizontal surface underneath the rail.

Answer to question #2: That's a good question and I don't know the answer. The customer requested that I do it that way, it's the only one I've done in that fashion.

Thanks for the quick answers. Dealer is BRB Auto Body in Rothschild, WI 54474. There's one other dealer in WI that is about 2 hours away so I'll give them a call and see how much different his prices are.

Question #1 - I figured that was how it was done.

Question #2 - I also figured that was the case since it sounded like that Tundra was the first one like that and it was fairly recent. Guess if it scrapes off you can always just replace the bolts. It'll be an interesting thing to keep track of because it does look sharp like that.

The regular line-X at $550 is too high, but black with Xtra at $600 is a great price! Most liner dealers in TX I talked too wanted $449 for black and another $150-200 for Xtra.

As far as color, those prices seem about right, I was quoted $800-$850 for color with Xtra.

Just a quick curious question. I have a ARE tonneau cover on my truck now, would that have to be removed in order to have the bed Line-X'd or would they be able to mask off the clamps holding it to the bed rails?

For best results, I would remove the cover. The place I used sprayed over the top of the rail against the cab since there is no plastic cover on there. I suppose you could skip that, but IMO, if you are paying that much for a good Line-X, you may as well get everything done right the first time.

I figured taking it off would be the best bet with the best results. Just wanted to throw it out there and see what other thought about it.

Yikes!!

Those prices and times seem out of line.

I paid $625, that's including taxes, here in Austin, Tx. for Xtra plus colormatch.

Dropped the truck off at about 9 a.m. and got a call that it was ready at 3 p.m. The only thing they asked me to do was not toss anything heavy in to the bed for 24 hrs.

And I will say that from what I could tell that it really took about 2 days for the stuff to truly "set". It surely did outgass (as in having an odor) for about 2 weeks.

Those prices and times seem weird though, unless there's some laws up there that would account for such.

I can tell ya that Line-X Xtra is well worth it!

Workin -

I had my current truck sprayed last year for under $450. I think it was $425 or so, for the reg. Line-X here in West Salem (southwest by 2.5 hours or so of you). I'm not sure what the cost of the Xtra is / was, as I almost always have my tonneau covering the bed.

The bed rails were NOT covered - nor under them. They will more than likely spray UP to them. Additionally, I had them spary all the bolts. The only thing they didn't spary was the tie downs in the bed. Lastly, they removed and reinstalled my tonneau at no extra charge, and chopped up my drop-in and disposed at no charge. I have gone there many times before, so I'm not sure if any dealer would do this.

Hope this helps!

Called the other 2 places that are somewhat close (and I used the term close very loosely) today and got the following prices.

Green Bay black $420 w/xtra $595 color $545 w/xtra $720
West Salem black $450 color $750 (can't find the note but that's pretty close) they don't do Xtra because "it costs so much to get in who'd spend $1000 on a bed liner anyway."

At least Green Bay's prices aren't so out of line like the first place. They just started doing color about 2 months ago so they said it takes them about 1/2 day to do it which is also in line with what I've been reading. Maybe I'll just have to take a road trip vacation to Texas this fall. See the sights along the way and get a bedliner done by the experts.

That Green Bay price isn't hugely out of whack.. And by all means take a trip down here if you can... but I bet you can find some better prices for the Xtra and all a bit closer to home..

I truly had to justify to myself spending what I did on a bedliner. The way I finally looked at it was, "will this actually add some value to the truck?"... and I believe it does, that you can make the money back when it's time to trade in or sell... Hey, it's not some nasty looking, faded, scratched up plastic thing that the next owner will just yank out out toss away.. lol

As said before, nothing seems to scratch, mar, fade... whatever.. this Xtra..

It's been a bit over a year and my bed still has the texture and shine as it did from day one.

I think the price you're getting in Green Bay is not too bad, especially with the exchange rate pretty much even now.
