I'm looking to buy a retractable tonneau cover for my 93 Lightning. From what I've found/heard/researched, Pace Edwards is the way to go so that's probably who I'll end up going with. I really like the Peragon as well, but it doesn't look like they make one for my truck. My question is, is the basic Pace Edwards model good enough or is it worth the extra money to upgrade and go with the Pace Edwards JackRabbit?

Or are there any other options I should be considering? Thanks!

 

I'm very pleased with my RollBak cover.

 

I think the more popular Pace Edwards covers are the JackRabbit and Full Metal JackRabbit. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the original Roll Top Cover.

JackRabbit on top (vinyl laminated aluminum) and Full Metal JackRabbit on bottom (black powdercoated aluminum).

 

For what it is worth I have replaced more roll covers like this with some other type of cover than I have sold in the past year. They just don't hold up to alot of use, if you are going to be using the cover alot and opening and closing it alot then these aren't the way to go.

 

We think its necessary to lubricate the Pace Edwards covers a few times a year. RollNLock is another retractable that seems to us to be workhorse. No problems at all.

 

I had a rollnlock on my ranger for 3 years. I loved it! I am going to get one for my F150 when I get the $$...

 

I don't have any problems out of the Roll-n-Lock as long as it is a general use truck. But I get alot of company trucks for coal mines and natural gas and none of them lasted much over a year with the constant use and conditions they are in. All of them switched to a Fold-A-Cover and have had zero problems and like the way these tops work much better. I really like the BakFlip as well goes on very easily and works great and with it fully opened you retain 95% or your truck bed.

 

Good info, thanks. I see that FoldACover has a redesigned model coming out. Looks like they changed the lock and perhaps (or maybe not) it's a little more low profile.

 

The new Fold-A-Cover design is great, I have done a few of them. I can't really tell that is a much lower profile but the new locking mechanism works and looks great. It is a rotary latch system with a flush paddle handle, I am trying to get a new display now. I am really torn between it and the BakFlip, I like them both and really like the quick easy install of the BakFlip.

 

Thanks for all the info guys. I ended up going with the Pace Edwards rolltop cover. I probably won't use it all that much so it shouldn't breakdown anytime soon and it seems, in general, that people really seem to like them. It should be getting here on Tuesday so I'll let ya know once I get it installed.
