Maybe A Dumb Question?

Has anyone had a spray on liner put in and removed the plastic rails on the bed? If so how did they fill in the holes on the rail? And is this even possible?

I have a 2006 F150 4x4 SCREW. Thanks for any help

We once used metal tape (very expensive) to cover the holes. Metal tape works OK for small holes, but really the holes on the rails are too big.

I have not done this but: I would try Bondo or a fiberglass patch kit to fill the holes. Put some masking tape underneath, put in some Bondo, let dry and sand, spray the bedliner, remove the tape.

As ugly as those top plastic rails are, they are there to protect the bed. Look how many nicks and scrathes and gashes are in it. I would go nuts if i had all those in a painted surface. Its already bad enough with the few dings and scratches i have. I feel embarrased to have all these scratches like i dont take care of my truck or something.

My friend had the rail caps removed, the rails sprayed, then the caps replaced. I wouldn't keep the caps off, its BUTT ugly without them on the Fords, unless you have really thick ones sprayed on with the holes filled. The top of the rails are "indented" to make up for the thickness of the rail caps....

I've seen a 97-03 F150 with the plastic rail covers removed.
Now I can understand 6 maybe 8 holes to attach the cover but,
For some reason Ford put over EIGHTY HOLES counting the tailgate of varying sizes and some of them are big.

I was like, WTF?

I personally like the sprayed tops as opposed to the stock plastic. What does this usually run upgradewise? Also, can a dealer remove ine of the DIY liners for the same price as doing an untouched bed? I hate mine, and want a Line-X with the sprayed sides. I'm also thinking about getting the inside of my toolbox line-x'ed. Anybody know what all this would run???

Thanks.
