Who Does the Ford Spray-In liners?

I am buying a 06 Lariat SuperCrew and am picking it up on Monday, and I was wondering if anyone knows what brand of spray in liner Ford does. How is it? How does it stack up with Rhino and Line-X? It is $449 for Ford to do it-worth it or should I do it aftermarket?

Ford doesn't offer a factory spray in bedliner. Your dealer probably has a deal worked out with someone in town to do the bedliner for 'em, then they add the price of the liner into the contract. Same goes with things like add on alarms, window tinting, pinstriping, etc.

Cool-thank you. Is $449 a good price for a spray in liner?I live in Kansas City, so I would guess that the dealership uses one of the main places to do the liner...

That seems to be about average for a Line-X or Rhinoliner. I was quoted about $470 for a Line-X.

Armor-thane did my Ford spray-in liner. I paid $449 also. I also just added it in to the final cost of the truck.

Ford does offer a factory spray-in, or rather a Ford "system" spray-in, however very few of the dealers have bought into it - at least according to the Ford truck accessory manager. Seems the dealer has to cough up some $50,000 to Ford for equipment, then of course the chemicals. It's Ford's own creation - haven't seen one, so can't tell you what the look or feel is.

I got this information from the factory Accessory Manager last November. Don't know that anythings changed since then. If I were a dealer, I'd be in no hurry to plunk down the cash.

The dealer I bought my truck from has a deal with a local LineX shop. When the dealership quoted me the price, I decided not to go for it. About a month later, I went to the exact LineX shop the dealer was using and they did the liner for $75 less than what the dealership originally quoted me. I guess alot of people will pay the extra dough to have it included in the financing. I just thought their price seemed high at the time. In hindsight, it might have been better just to keep the extra 400ish in my pocket and absorb the cost into the payment... Either way, I couldn't be happier with the LineX!

Like others said, every dealer is different. some use big brands, just cut corners with no name brands and still charge you full pop you would expect for Line-x of Rhino Liner.

I am in San Diego (where just about everything costs more) and I found a Line-x shop to do my f150 for $325.

I suggest you shop around for a Line-X dealer.

My dealer sprays their own. Not sure if it is the one that Ford is selling the dealers or not, but.. I did get to see one. It looks like a cross between a Rhino and a Line-x (closer to Rhino) what I didn't like is where they cut the liner at the bottom, back edge of the bed they used a razor and you can clearly see a bright silver line from one side of the truck to the other where they cut right through the paint. This was a black truck. I mentioned it to the dealer and he said "Oh well, that will take some training." NOT on my truck it wont. I'm going to Line-x next week. $499.

OK, I thought I'd chime in here. Auto dealers can install whatever bedliner brand they want to in-house as long as they buy the equipment, etc. Most don't though because of labor problems, equipment problems, not much support, etc. I know of two auto dealers that tried it and gave up. As far as Ford, the word is that there will be an "approved brand" in 2007 which will be backed by Ford Motor Company. I'm more than 50% sure I know what brand it is (no, it's not LINE-X or Rhino) but I'm not going to say until I know for sure. This "approved brand" can be sprayed in house or the truck can be sent out to an "approved brand" aftermarket dealer. Auto dealers can purchase the rights and equipment for $50,000 if they want to do it in house. The bedliner will be covered by the vehicle's warranty, 3 years or 36,000 miles (which actually sort of stinks since most other brands offer a lifetime warranty). I'll also tell you that the product is more like LINE-X than Rhino and Ford calls the bed, "Tough Bed". Now, I don't think that all the details have been worked out, but the process is in motion. All of this may work out or it may not. There are MANY challeges that must be overcome before it will work.

Hey Truckgasm, sounds like you and I have similar info. So far, none of the dealers I have talked to are interested in anteing up the 50K.

So rather than a life time warranty Ford provides a 3/36 warranty on the liner.
The only advantage I can see in this route is for the cash strapped new truck buyer. He'd like to have a spray and rather than pony up 400 plus aftermarket, he can just up his truck payment by 5 dollars a month.

Still, should be plenty of business for the aftermarket companies.
Millions of beds on the road already and hey, look at how many buyers
don't get factory Limited Slip.

Like I mentioned, there are a lot of things to work out. Such as, does the company who is supplying the chemical have the contractual capacity to supply Ford with what they need? What happens if a customer has a problem and has moved to a different state? Is there a reimbursement method available through the Ford dealerships? What does this same customer do if an aftermarket dealer applied the bedliner? I can probably come up with a dozen more questions. These situations I mentioned WILL happen.

Ford has said they want to have a piece of all the aftermarket equipment that is sold to Ford buyers. Not a reasonable thought process, but that's where they want to be.
